Original vintage Asia travel poster issued by the Federated Malay States Railways featuring a map of Malaysia with colourful images on it showing fishermen on the beach and at sea, farmers working in the fields and on the plantations, animals in circles: an elephant tiger and buffalo bull, traditional junk boats and wooden houses, pineapple production and fruit tins, jungle forests, a temple, fabric and a kris dagger sword, the border with Siam (now Thailand) at the top and the islands of Penang and Singapore shown with a ship, boats, stylised fish and a warship on the South China Sea and Straits of Malacca within the decorative palm trees and flags border, the printed text below the stylised title lettering offering: Reduced train fares for overland passengers. The English artist J.R. Charton emigrated to Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore) and was commissioned by the Federal Malay States Railway to produce Malayan scenes. The Federated Malay States Railways (FMS) operated the train lines from Singapore to Pedang Besar in northern Malaysia in the early 1900s from 1901-1948. Printed by Lithographers Ltd. Singapore.
