Flung Out Like a Cigarette Butt by the Big Wigs (Plate A), 1974

1974

About the Item

Flung Out Like a Cigarette Butt by the Big Wigs – 15.75 x 12" image size and signed ‘Dalí’ lower right and annotated lower left. Framed in an ornate gold-tone moulding. Micheler-Löpsinger 668; Field 74-8 Plate A From the total edition of 462 plus artist's proofs - numbered A 11/195. Dalí’s series of colored etchings After Fifty Years of Surrealism reflects on the artist’s long involvement with the genre from its inception to the current vogue it was enjoying in the 1970s. Each image, laden with Dalí’s unique symbolism, refers to a pivotal moment or aspect of Dalí’s experience. For example, Flung Out Like a Cigarette Butt by the Big Wigs is an amusing take on the official rejection of him by other members of the Surrealist movement in the 1930s.
