About the Item
Official Vintage 1937 program of the Coronation of King George and Queen Elizabeth. Framed in a dark brown wood shadowbox with an off-white colored mat. Back of the frame has three hinges to access the program. Program is complete and is excellent condition as it was rarely opened and handled. Program size is 8 x 10.75 and frame size is 15.25 x 17.875. Frame is in good condition, sturdy but with a few scuff marks as per age and a few small tears on the back dust seal paper. Frame is ready for hanging.
The coronation of George VI and his wife, Elizabeth, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth, Emperor and Empress consort of India took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Wednesday 12 May 1937. George VI ascended the throne upon the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII, on 11 December 1936, three days before his 41st birthday. Edward's coronation had been planned for 12 May and it was decided to continue with his brother and sister-in-law's coronation on the same date.
The event was designed to be not only a sacred anointing and formal crowning, but also a public spectacle, which was also planned as a display of the British Empire. May 1937 included a programme of royal events lasting nearly the entire month to commemorate and mark the occasion. As a preliminary to the coronation, guests from across the Empire and around the world assembled at Buckingham Palace and official receptions were held to welcome them; among those attending were Indian princes and, for the first time, native African royalty. For the event itself, the prime ministers of almost every Dominion took part in the procession to the abbey, while representatives of nearly every country attended. Contingents from most colonies and each Dominion participated in the return procession through London's streets.

Baryshnikov - Classic 20th Century work by Graphic artist Ivan Luz of Mikhail Baryshnikov at the height of his performance career in the late 1970’s. The piece is number 25 in a limited series of 100 and is personally and boldly signed by Baryshnikov. An excellent example of the popular contemporary graphic and poster style of the 1970s. Measures 21.375 inches wide x 26 inches tall x .75 inches deep. It is framed in its original blue metal frame and is ready for hanging. The work is in excellent condition with no color fading. The frame has a few minor scratches that do not detract from the quality of the work or presentation.
This is a very fine limited edition serigraph. A serigraph is a type of printmaking process that involves pushing ink through a mesh stencil onto paper or another surface. Each color in the image requires a separate stencil, resulting in a unique, layered print. Serigraphs are often used in fine art and textile design.
