About the Item

Provenance Acquired by the gallery directly from the artist Description Resting upon a golden cushion, this two-faced subject has the look of a mask that one would be able to wear. The sculpture possibly alludes to Janus, the ancient Roman god of transitions and time. Depicted having two-faces, Janus presides over war and peace. It is fitting that this sculpture, done in Italian marble, portrays two faces, each side representing a beginning and an ending.
