Cloud Waves . Organic Sculpture on wood backlit with an LED light

2020

About the Item

Cloud sculpture. It is made up of a sculpture made of plaster and painted with acrylic and spray paint. The sculpture is assembled to a piece of painted wood, which in turn is assembled to a larger one, composing a single piece with several layers. The artwork is backlit with an LED light box. 24H x 24W x 12D My work combines aspects of architecture, the urban environment and a duality of structure with chaos. Curves, illusory perspectives, geometry, and urban symbols are among some of the tools I use in making my work. Innovation with materials is a key component as I have used plaster and plexiglass. Sculpting with three-dimensional materials, I create waves and feelings of the organic while also referencing the architectural world through the use of geometry. I am inspired by the architectural masters Hadid and Gehry. On both flat and dimensional surfaces, I paint shapes that act as recurring symbols and enigmatic messages emerge as a kind of cryptic language. I combine the curvilinear with the straight to insert the organic into the angular square, breaking the rational into the new and fantastic.

Intertwined . Sculpture made by plaster and painted with acrylic and spray paint. 20H x 40W x 13D About the process: From a mesh I begin to create the forms of the sculpture, without previous ideas, I let myself be carried away by the curves and counter curves that are generated. Once this process is finished, there are many layers of material to give body and strengthen the work. Then comes the polishing and finally the painting. It takes me a long process to finish the sculpture. My work combines aspects of architecture, the urban environment, bright graffiti colors, and a duality of structure with chaos. Curves, illusory perspectives, geometry, and urban symbols are among some of the tools I use in making my work. Innovation with materials is a key component as I have used plaster...
