Cari Cohen Art
Argentinian, American, b. 1966
Cari Cohen was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is currently based in North Miami Beach where she makes work that borders two and three dimensions. Inspired by architectural masters Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry, Cohen’s visual language shares hard-edged lines with curves, inserting the organic into the angular square and breaking the rational towards the new and fantastic. Current projects have been shown at Miami Dade College where she presented her two distinct Series: Art + Light on pure Geometry and Art + Light on Organic evolving, and in 2019 she showed her new work with Art Santa Fe, NM, by Contemporary Art Projects USA. She has largely shown her work at Art Fairs and galleries such as the Wit Gallery, Lenox, MA and has also shown in private and public institutions including Citibank where she had artworks on display at the Aventura and Bal Harbour branches. Cohen received a degree in Architecture from the University of Buenos Aires, also specializing in multimedia design and photography through which she established her own Design firm in architecture and interior design in Buenos Aires, creating projects for international companies. Then in 2001, she relocated to the USA where she completed coursework in painting at Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University, also studying techniques for working with metals. She became American Citizen in 2010 and in 2016, Cohen founded her own creativity Art School, "The Fun Palette", to teach adults and children in a large range of innovative visual art fields. About the process:
From a mesh I begin to create the forms of the sculpture, without previous ideas, I let myself be carried away by the curves and counter curves that are generated. Once this process is finished, there are many layers of material to give body and strengthen the work. Then comes the polishing and finally the painting. It takes me a long process to finish the sculpture.
My work combines aspects of architecture, the urban environment, bright graffiti colors, and a duality of structure with chaos. Curves, illusory perspectives, geometry, and urban symbols are among some of the tools I use in making my work.

He covers the wood panel with layers of acrylic paint, removing some layers in the process to reveal the underlying evolution of color. His works evoke the many layers of his life. The top layer is covered with shiny resin, adding a smooth reflective finish to the intriguing depth of his minimalist works. The harmony of the overall composition results in a cohesive visual statement. Hidden within the layers are limitless points of interest, constantly revealing new intricacies for us to discover. His works have been exhibited at galleries and art fairs internationally, including Los Angeles, New York, Zurich, Hong Kong and London.
This one-of-a-kind square artwork measures 12 inches square. It is wired and ready to hang. The front is covered with resin while the sides are painted in a separate process without the application of resin. It does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the back of the artwork. Philosophy, mathematics, scientific theory, poetry and astronomy are a few of the themes that run through his paintings and he expresses it with a unique imagery. Hunt describes his contemporary imagery as, “Chaotic order pouring from the watery depths of my unconscious”.
Ricky Hunt lives and paints in Los Angeles. A brief period of drug addiction in the 1980's led to a term of incarceration for the artist. This in turn led to the discovery of his artistic talent and personal transformation through the love of art. He found inspiration in artists such as Basquiat, Haring and Rothko.
Hunt began to teach himself to draw in 1995. Nine months later Tiger Woods’ father Earl, commissioned a pastel portrait which he described as “The best portrait of Tiger ever painted”. From this foundation grounded in traditional drawing skills Hunt's work transformed into his contemporary painting approach seen today.
His success started with his first sold-out exhibition at Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles in 2016 which led to an international collector base and exhibitions worldwide.
