11x11x4" open edition bronze
decorative abstract minimalist bronze vessel in a verdigris burial patina with gold rim
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Minimal use of finishing techniques allows a closer connection to the casting process which generates tremendous energy not too different from the energy that created Earth and Life. As you hold one his forms, feel the timeless beauty and power of bronze.
"I began my work in bronze by exploring the vessel – the most basic form being the bowl. Ultimately and symbolically, the circle represents life itself. Its ancient, yet contemporary purpose is plainly utilitarian. Using bronze as my medium, I have been able to express the beauty and nature of the metal. Using simple vessel forms I can direct the viewer to appreciate the feel of bronze, enjoy the patina and experience the warmth of a polished rim or a surface rendered to gold-like qualities.
The boat, or canoe, was the next evolution of the vessel – my first being a narrowed bowl. Now elongated, this vessel evokes a different utility. Movement. By design, it is meant to move. While a bowl holds food, water, and various goods of life, the boat now carries us and transports our goods from one place to another. The boat means exploration and requires risk. The act of movement means getting into the boat and setting a direction, passing over uncertain water with hope of reaching a destination – maybe one unintended."
"The intent of my work with bronze is simply to express the nature and beauty of the material itself. From the original designs in wax, Use of simple forms frees the viewer to see the qualities of bronze without concern for subject or detail. These bronze forms are contemporary creations; and yet they hold primitive connotations."

Abstract sculpture: 'Because We're Here''
By Tony Moore
Located in New York, NY
My work is concerned with the relationship of humanity and nature. I conceive of an expanded concept of “Nature” as embodying all existence, both the seen and unseen, socio-political events, daily occurrences, as well as private intuitions that are made concrete through creative action. My objects are places of remembrance where multiplicities of associations take place. Most recently these have been concerned with issues of the human condition.
“In recent ceramic Fire Paintings and Sculptures abstracted figures, made from cut twigs, are impressed into wet clay. As I investigated, the figures kept running, fleeing, tumbling, searching, moving away from and towards something else. They moved across landscapes, towards glowing buildings/edifices, systemized structures/societies, which both beckoned them and somehow dominated them. The figures were present, yet also in spirit form, floating and dissolving in diaphanous light and shimmering waters. Twigs became, fathers, mothers and children. They became surrogates, rather like a small child’s dolls, playing out a deeply psychological fiction of desperately moving toward “something”. Something hopeful, yet presently out of reach. Something eternally becoming …”
Tony Moore is an English-American sculptor and painter represented in international museum collections including the Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Greenville Museum, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, Art Museum of the U. of Memphis and ASU Art Museum, US and the Yorkshire Museum and Derby Museum, UK.
He received a MFA in Sculpture from Yale University and is the recipient of prestigious awards, including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award...
