About the Item

Pangaea Totem is a sculpture by French contemporary artist Frédérique Domergue. The sculpture is made with oak slat, polished brass and verdigris patinated bronze on the sculpted part, dimensions are 80 × 50 × 50 cm (31.5 × 19.7 × 19.7 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This piece can be purchased on a commission basis (production takes 10 to 12 weeks). Working with materials and their relationship to experimental processes was something that Frédérique Domergue always had a taste for. Her initial inspiration for furniture design was this (wood and metal-framed). Through her primarily experimental practice, she was able to gain a thorough understanding of a wide range of metals. She gradually moved toward an essentially artistic approach due to her passion and attention to detail when applying the finishing touches. As metallic sheen changes, her artworks are often continuously evolving, witness to time passing. In the manner, the artwork’s oxidation transforms it bit by bit, as if alive. Frédérique Domergue gets her inspiration from nature and the seaside. Her artworks evoke landscapes, skies and seas that are sometimes calm and tranquil other times stormy, dark and ablaze.
