About the Item

Homage to Bach is a unique small size contemporary modern cube sculpture by the famous Dutch artist couple Nel Haringa and Fred Olijve. The cube sculpture consists of a few dozen hand cut hand polished grey and clear transparent plexiglass elements carefully stacked together inside a plexiglass housing. This results in a breathtaking one-of-a-kind sculptural construction with a unique and unmistakeable identity. This sculpture is the second of a new series of three made by them that are dedicated to the German composer and musician Johann Sebastian Bach, who's music they greatly admire. It is authenticated by a characteristic signature on the bottom of the sculpture and comes with a limited edition full colour monography of the artists. Nel Haringa (1941) and Fred Olijve (1937) graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam in 1966 and then went on to study and graduate in 1967 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. Nel and Fred have been working together as the artist duo Haringa + Olijve since 1969 and continue to do so until this moment. Around the mid-Fifties, a new generation of artists emerged in The Netherlands, adding a new chapter to the development of abstract geometric art. Artists such as Joost Baljeu, Bob Bonies, Ad Dekkers and Peter Struycken are of real significance in this field, on a national as well as on an international level. Nel Haringa and Fred Olijve are also part of this remarkable chapter in the history of Dutch art. Not only because of their oeuvre but also because of their personal ties with Joost Baljeu and Bob Bonies. Their contribution bridges the gap between the historical roots of abstract art and the present. The essence of the inspirational source, as reflected in their various bodies of work, also displays a highly personal and original vision in regard to form and colour as well as to the use of materials and construction. The oeuvre of Nel Haringa and Fred Olijve is clear, perceivable and process-oriented and as such it holds a strong objective "democratic" component. A quality that connects them to the principles of modern art but also of a kind that goes beyond retrospection. Theirs is an investigative artistry, calculated but never chilly, that ties abstraction to emotion. The work from Haringa + Olijve has been exhibited at important national and international platforms such as PAN Amsterdam, KunstRAI and Art Cologne and numerous other European art fairs. Their sculptures are true collectors items and are part of private and public collections including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Drents Museum Assen, Museum Van Lien Fijnaart, Collection Fuchs-Hauser, Collection Schönfeld and many more.

Pareja 07 - contemporary modern abstract geometric steel sculpture
By Eduardo Lacoma
Located in Doetinchem, NL
Pareja 07 is a unique contemporary modern abstract sculpture by Spanish artist Eduardo Lacoma from his latest series Pareja, Spanish for couple. The sculpture consists of two handmade constructions from cut, welded and polished steel, that are mounted together to form a true complementary couple. The outer element is 5 mm carbon steel which has been varnished, the inner element is 5 mm corten steel which has been oxidized. Due to the manual process of building and finishing, each element has its own characteristic look, sometimes very smooth, sometimes a little rough but always very sophisticated. From all sides it offers intriguing views, now more closed, then more open. It fits perfectly in a contemporary modern interior setting, on a side table, on a shelf or even on a plinth. It evokes feelings of mid-century modern design whilst being a one-of-a-kind 21st century piece. Eduardo Lacoma (1968, Spain) is a practicing sculptor since many years, in addition to his career as an electronics technician. Being profoundly inspired by art during a trip to Barcelona in his teens, he taught himself the fine art of sculpting, combining materials such as iron, steel and stone. Living and working in Pamplona in the Basque region of Spain, he was originally inspired by the architecture of Gaudi. Gradually his interest shifted however to the sculptural forms of Eduardo Chillida and Jorge Oteiza...
