1955-1978

About the Item

Optical objects in a handy format produced by Plura Editions, dating back to the late 1970s. This object is part of a series of optical objects in a handy format produced by Plura Editions, dating back to the late 1970s. The edition included several top international artists at the time. The edition included 120 copies in cardinal numbers and 120 in Roman numerals. This object, when viewed from different points of view, changes its visual state, due to an optical trick. Signed, numbered 42/120, dated on label on verso. With dynamic sculptures and installations composed of synthetic materials, Jesús Rafael Soto has helped pioneer Op art and kinetic art. He drew on color theory and the flattened planes of cubism to create his three-dimensional works with nylon, perspex, steel and industrial paints. Due to Soto's keen understanding of geometry and negative space, his works often seem to vibrate or simply move through space. Soto's artistic training took him from his native Venezuela, where he studied in Caracas and directed the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Maracaibo, to Paris, where he collaborated with experimental artists such as Jean Tinguely, Victor Vasarely, Alexander Calder, and Fernand Léger. His works have been exhibited in New York, London, Paris, São Paulo, Berlin, Caracas, and Tokyo and are part of the collections of the Reina Sofía Museum, the Tate, the Centre Pompidou, the Stedelijk Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Moderna Museet, and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. Soto's auction prices have reached seven figures. Poiché il pezzo viaggia dall'Italia, si prega di considerare che l'espletamento delle pratiche di esportazione richiede un minimo di una settimana dal momento dell'acquisto.
