Gilt Bronze Modernist Abstract Sculpture in Manner of Brancusi

About the Item

Kostas Dikefalos He was born in Zakynthos, in 1956. He came to Athens, in 1963. In 1976, he was accepted at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he won a scholarship to study sculpture with Y. Pappas, T. Papagiannis and G. Nikolaides. He graduated with full marks in 1982 and his thesis is exhibited at the School’s halls. In the years 1992-1998, he taught sculpture as a member of the special teaching staff in T. Papagiannis’ studio, at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has been granted many awards, in Greece and abroad. His works can be found in the Athens School of Fine Arts Collection, the Athens National Gallery, the Ministry of Culture, the Vorres Museum, The Pierrides Gallery, the Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art in Andros Island, the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation, the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation, the Fujimi Town Highland Museum in Japan, as well as many private collections in Greece and abroad. Kostas Dikefalos has been honored with many prizes in Greece and abroad. In 1996 he is awarded the first prize in the 1st International Outdoor Sculpture Contest, Kitakyushu University Japan. He has won more than 7 prizes by various municipalities of Athens. He has participated in 13 sculpture symposiums, has conducted 15 solo exhibitions and innumerous group exhibitions nationally and internationally. His sculptures adorn many public places and art museums in Greece and Japan, as well as famous private collections. Kostas Dikefalos lives and works in Athens. Pal Kepenyes, wearable art pioneer. sculptor, goldsmith, jeweler, artist, was born in 1926 in Hungary. His creative talent, specifically in creating sculpted works, was evident early on. He moved to Budapest, where he first studied at the University of Arts and Crafts and later at the Academy of Fine Arts. His professor, Beni Ferenczy was one of Hungary's most influential sculptors. Pal Kepenyes (20/21st century) is active/lives in Hungary, Mexico. Pal Kepenyes is known for sculpture, jewelry making, miniature decorative pieces especially influenced by Mexican folk art and folklore. His work also includes animals, lions, tigers, fish, nude figures and milagros. He began his studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Budapest, and then was a prisoner of war during the Stalinist regime. In 1956, at the end of the Hungarian Revolution, he finally was released and left the country for Paris, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts. In 1956, he also traveled to Mexico, a country to which he has been devoted for the rest of his life because of his attraction pre-hispanic cultures.
