About the Item

Tête de faune Ed. 29/300 pcs 1948 White earthenware, partially polychromed and glazed 39 x 32 x 4.5 cm Numbered and stamped on the back : Madoura Plein Feu, Edition Picasso, 29/300 Picasso : Catalogue of the edited ceramic works 1947-1971, by Alain Ramié, Editions Madoura, 1988, illustrated under no.51, p.42. Provenance : Galerie Wünsche, Bonn / Austria Private collection, Germany From the first visit to Vallauris, also known as "the city of hundred potters", Pablo Picasso remained fascinated with the freedom and expressive nature of the ceramic medium. To satisfy his vigorous creativity, he begun to collaborate with Ramié couple, founder of the Madoura Atelier, in 1947 and it lasted for more than 20 years. Through the exploration of the new medium, the painter transcribes his most iconic subjects by manufacturing a wonderful universe of forms and textures. "Tête de faune" expresses a fundamental living testimony, a constant reflection on the creative essence and the elaboration of the forms.

By developing a piece with unrefined materials and bringing it to the point of refinement, she is creating art that asks where good and bad taste meet. This contemporary ceramic piece features a delicate array of porcelain flowers, berries, and leaves mounted on an organically shaped wooden plinth. The light green resin reflects the image of the porcelain bouquet.
