"My great hope for my work is that it makes people experience a truly special feeling that only they can explain. I hope that they experience a sense of what I feel...These feelings and emotions can’t be expressed in words, as it’s on such a deeper level."– John Fitzgerald: Anthology (2023)
Born in Co. Meath in 1976, John Fitzgerald is now established as one of Irelands leading Equine, Sporting and Portrait Artists.
Originally John studied Industrial Design in Letterkennny RTC & at the University of Wales, Swansea. It was while in college that he developed a strong understanding of drawing and design, and the different techniques used in completing a piece from initial concept sketches, to oberservation, to 3 dimensional form.
In 2013 John was asked to be the artist in residence by the Curragh Racecourse where he now has his own studio/gallery, which is open to the public on race days.
2014 saw Johns work reach a huge audience at the Cheltenham festival, where he was filmed by Channel 4 racing while completing a range of works including A.P.Mc Coys portrait, and a set of sketches...

Monkey Head Natural Sisal Fiber Clay Sculpture Chimpanzee Anne Andersson Art

Anne Andersson
Sisal fiber wall sculpture
Monkey Head (# 1)
Hand signed to verso
Dated 2009.
Measures approx. 11" height x 10" width x 6 1/4" depth.
Her sculptures are made of natural sisal Fiber from an agave and meticulously hand painted. The eyes are hand blown glass.
Anne Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a great desire to explore Nature and a Passion for Art. She received a degree in science in 1981 from Kjällbergska University in Gothenburg and a degree in Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She now works from her studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as a Sculptor, illustrator and painter. Her work calls to mind the animalia artworks of Henri Maik and Gustavo Novoa.
Anne Andersson's artwork serves as an homage to our planet’s charismatic and rare wild animals. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of exotic wildlife, and motivated by an urge to preserve them, Anne’s astonishingly realistic life-size sculptures capture the experience of seeing these animals up close without exploiting them. Her sculpted work using natural materials and clay, provides a humane alternative to big game trophy hunting and taxidermy.
She combines her talents in painting, tapestry weaving and illustration with an intuitive attention to the smallest detail to truly bring her sculptures to life. She has created lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, bobcats, lynxes, pumas, panthers, elephants, rhinos, bears, water buffalo, bison, moose, wolves, coyotes and more—but she feels closest to the big cats. Anne graduated with honors at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1989. It was then that she met Don Moore...

Academical Plaster Horse Sculpture From The Parthenon Marbles at British Museum
Located in Roma, IT
An Academic plaster sculpture study from the Marble statue from the East pediment of the Parthenon that showed the miraculous birth of the goddess Athena from the head of her father Zeus. Many of the figures from the central scene are now fragmentary or entirely lost. This figure was carved as an isolated horse’s head. Its ears are flattened back, its jaw gapes, it has flared nostrils and bulging eyes. A portion of the lower jaw and the inner side of the top of the head were cut away. There are dowel holes where the metal bridle was attached. On the crest of the mane are eleven smaller holes, in which some metallic ornaments must have been inserted. This is the head of one of the horses that drew the chariot of the moon goddess...

Book Sculpture Paper Mache Enamel Painting Jean Lowe Please Don't Eat Daisy
By Jean Lowe
Located in Surfside, FL
Jean Lowe (American, b. 1960)
Book-form sculpture, 2004
"Please Don't Eat Daisy",
Enamel painted papier-mache
Hand signed and dated verso
Dimensions 10.5"h x 12.75"w x 4"d
This title is well suited for vegetarians, vegans and plant based diets!
Jean Lowe is a California-based painter and sculptor. She creates installations and sculptural works of enamel-painted papier-mâché. Lowe earned a B.A. from UC Berkeley in 1983. She earned her MFA from UC San Diego in 1988.
She was a lecturer at UC San Diego from 1992 to 2008.
Lowe's installations are handmade, labor intensive and visually playful installations, with papier-mâché furnishings and objects juxtaposed to site specific wall painting. Lowe says of her installations, "Intellectually I am driven by an interest in challenging a status quo anthropocentric world view and formally interested in marrying that content to a 'domestic' decorative esthetic." Many of Lowe's installations have quoted 18th and 19th century French decoration, rife with romanticized images of animals and nature and imbued with a sense of class and privilege. Into this fabric she substitutes or integrate corresponding contemporary attitudes--both about our treatment of the land and its other inhabitants and our attitudes regarding decoration: the wrestling match between high and low art. Wry humor. Lowe creates sculptural representations of everyday objects using papier-mâché and enamel paint. She is known for her papier-mâché books and has created a large collection of them with evocative and amusing titles. Her work Books and Ideas in an Age of Anxiety comprises a collection of them in display cases and is situated in Byers Hall at UCSF as part of the J. Michael Bishop Art Collection at Mission Bay.
Among the book titles are: Accelerated Zen Buddhism: How to Win at the Hereafter. Anxiety: The Unexploited Weight Loss Tool. Artistic Mammography. The Eco-Tourist's Guide to Las Vegas. A Guide to Box Wines. Hot Buttered Cop Porn. How to Dominate Women. Militant Feminist Veganism for All. The Triumph of Minimalism and other such titles.
Exhibitions
Lowe has exhibited in both New York and Los Angeles. She participated in the 1994 exhibition Bad Girls West.
Curated by Marcia Tucker, Bad Girls was a humorous and transgressive look at gender and feminist issues. It featured work from artist across many media, including photo, painting, sculpture, performance, film, comics, advertisements, writings and more. Janine Antoni, Andrea Bowers, Nancy Dwyer, The Guerrilla Girls...

'Robin' A Modern British Bronze Bird Sculpture. Wildlife & Nature Sculpture
Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
'Robin' is a stunningly elegant Bronze sculpture. Richard Smith conveys so much character in such simple lines, exemplifying a truly wonderful talent. The fantastic richly detailed graduated Patina really adds to the depth of the work.
Richard Smith works as a part-time sculptor and a part-time gamekeeper on an estate in Hertfordshire, England. On seeing his sculptures the viewer cannot deny Smith's knowledge and love of the animals he creates. Each piece he creates he pays homage to nature and wildlife.
Richard J. Smith was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, UK in 1955. He studied illustration at Luton School of Art to a high standard and graduated with a diploma in Technical & Scientific Illustration. He was soon offered a job as a medical artist at the John Radcliffe teaching hospital in Oxford. In 1978 he was painting for galleries as a full time artist with his depictions of wildlife. He has gained an international reputation for his work and is best known for his superb paintings of fish and water. He has exhibited at prestigious galleries such as the Tryon Gallery and W. H. Patersons in London, The Sportsman's Edge Gallery in New York, The Call of Africa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the Everard Reed Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa. Richard has exhibited his paintings at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in the USA and the Natural History Museum and Tring Museum in Britain. He has sold at all the major auctions houses in London, such as Christie's, Sotheby's, Bonhams and Phillips. In the latter part of 2007, Richard was commissioned to produce several fish paintings, for the Sultan of Oman. Callaghan Fine Paintings has commissioned a series of fantastic animal pieces. Including life size bronze birds; the elusive Snipe sitting atop a fence post; and the beautiful Little Blue penguin, a native of New Zealand. His works are all studied from life whilst either out in the field or in a museum with taxidermy. With incredible attention to detail Richard has breathed fresh air into this medium.

"Pod", Decorative Tatooed Sculptural Ceramic with Transparent Glaze
Located in Detroit, MI
"Pod" is a precious sculpture with a decorated tactile surface and a warm glaze giving the piece a soft glow. The transparent glaze enhances the creamy tones of the clay. Ms. Oka Doner created unique hand-size sculptures during the 1960s of which the "Pod" is an exquisite example. Her clay technical skills cover a wide range from enormous wall pieces to small decorative pieces that demand to be touched and held. This piece, despite being a fruit, is the perfect example of her famous "Tatooed" figurative sculptures.
Michele Oka Doner (born in Miami Beach, Florida, United States) is an American artist and author who works in a variety of media including sculpture, prints, drawings, functional objects and video. She has also worked in costume and set design and has created over 40 public and private permanent art installations. She is best known for her “A Walk On The Beach,” a one and a quarter mile long bronze and terrazzo concourse at Miami International Airport. It is composed of over 9000 bronzes embedded in terrazzo with mother-of-pearl. At one and quarter linear miles, it is one of the largest artworks in the world.
She is granddaughter of painter, Samuel Heller. She attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her art instructor Milton Cohen was experimenting with The Space Theater and George Manupelli began the Ann Arbor Film Festival. Their students were engaged in poetry, dance, light, music, all combined into a unitary vision, a motif that shaped Oka Doner's student years and is characteristic of her work today. She participated in a Manupelli experimental film, a "Map Read" performance with art drawing instructor Al Loving and Judsonite dancer Steve Paxton as well as several "Happenings." Another influence was art historian and Islamic scholar, Oleg Grabar, who illustrated how patterns in architecture are able to dissolve space.
She received her BS and MFA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In 2008 she was a U of M Penny Stamps Distinguished Speaker. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan; Germans Van Eck Gallery, New York; Diane Brown Gallery, New York; Art & Industrie Gallery, New York; Willoughby, Marlborough Gallery, New York; Studio Stefania Miscetti in Rome; and Gloria Luria Gallery in Miami, Florida.
During the 1960s Michelle Oka Doner was living and working in Detroit, Michigan, where she became acquainted with Charles McGee and his gallery located in the Fisher Building...

Palissy Majolica Bowl Snake Spider Frog Caterpillar Butterfly Lizard
Located in Detroit, MI
This Jose A Cunha Portuguese Palissy Majolica plate features a snake, spider, frog, caterpillar, and butterfly on green shredded clay ground. The piece bears the maker's marks for Jose A Cunha pottery. Palissy ware is a style of ceramics that is also known as rusticware due to their earth-toned palettes and naturalistic plant and animal scenes that are cast to it. The style was coined in reference to the 16th century French potter Bernard Palissy and experienced a significant revival in the 19th century thanks to Charles-Jean Avisseau. It's strongest revival however was in Portugal where it was produced by the potteries of Mafra, Jose A. Cunha, Alves, José Francisco de Sousa...
