A very fine original antique English botanical watercolour painting depicting this beautiful depiction of a flower/ plant. The work came to us from a private collection in Surrey, England and had been part of an album of works assembled by the artist during the early 1900's.
During the Victorian and Edwardian era in Britain, it was very fashionable for ladies of aristocratic and wealthy backgrounds to draw and paint still lifes of flowers and plants that they had picked or seen in gardens. Many were highly accomplished and extremely talented artists, who sadly were not encouraged to exhibit due to society frowning upon such activities.

The state of preservation of the artwork is very good.
"Raffaello Piraino he began teaching mosaic technique at the Art Institute of Monreale, He has to master painters like Pippo Rizzo and Eustachio Catalano, in Salzburg he attended a lithographic technique over and in 1963 he founded in Palermo the Art Gallery at the Borgo with adjoining intaglio printing and lithography. That activity lasts twenty years and it is for the artist an important vehicle for its artistic and cultural training. For Recos publisher of Thessaloniki illustrates the Iliad and the Odyssey and publishes numerous folders of etchings and lithographs accompanied by texts by Nello Ponente, Alfonso Gatto Leonardo Sciascia and Tono Zancanaro. In 1977, the opera Teatro Massimo of Palermo Institution calls him to design the sets and costumes of comic opera Les Mamelles de Tirésias of Poulanc. The success opens the doors to other theatrical achievements, film and television. He draws for the Teatro Biondo in Palermo the costumes for Life is a Dream by Pedro Calderon de la Barca. John Brower worked in Chicago as a billboard designer for 12 years. He taught art at Alverno College of Milwaukee, Wright Junior College in Chicago, the University of Illinois, and the University of Kentucky. A Pop Artist.
In John Browers' work two important things come forward: the design and the image. In the painting "Indian 2" you are denied simply enjoying the background or the realistic figure in the foreground. They both on their own would make an interesting painting but Johns' insistence on putting them together leaves you with a picture scrubbed clean of indecision, so clear that you can hardly help yourself from needing to understand its meaning. John Browers' pictures are modern - no matter how instant they look you can tell they have been thought about and realized with a lot of calculation and intentionality.
He has exhibited regularly in galleries throughout the country over the past 40 years and his work is in numerous collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
