COUNTRY STYLE

Functional pieces made with local materials that can stand the test of time have defined antique and vintage country furniture around the world.

Country style has varied based on regional tastes, from French Country with tufted sofas and cane-framed beds to American Country with stately Windsor chairs and tables built of pine. Each is imbued with touches that are often described as rustic, a style that is inclusive of a range of decorating modes such as country and farmhouse. Exposed wood, traditional fabrics, natural colors and a sense of heritage through distressed surfaces and handcrafted design are all attributes of country-style interiors.

Country furniture and decor can encompass movements from across centuries that reflect rural life, such as French Provincial, which emerged in the 17th century, Black Forest, which became popular in early-19th-century Switzerland with sculptural furniture carved with animals and Adirondack style, with chairs that debuted in the United States in the early 20th century and became a rustic favorite.

The design of country-style furniture isn’t guided by fleeting trends or elite tastes. Sofas upholstered with animal hide, desks made of oak or pine that show off the grain of their material and dining room tables balanced on sturdy square legs are all popular examples of country furniture. Although the aesthetics of country furniture are eclectic, the pieces are unified by meticulous construction that favors utility over ornamentation.

Contemporary country interiors usually have muted palettes, with white walls and calming shades of blue, where heirloom pieces mingle with vintage baskets and gingham textiles. Unpretentious and timeless, country furniture adds warmth to any home, whether it’s a cabin in the woods or an urban loft apartment.

Great Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover Book
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Great Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover Book. To travel through Italy is as close as one gets to being in paradise. For centuries, writers, artists, architects, and merchants have been drawn here, inspired by the beauty of Venice, Florence, Naples, and Rome. Countless books, paintings, poems, and sculptures are evidence of its undying appeal, and over the past 60 years, the country has become one of the world’s top travel and holiday destinations. The loveliness of Italy—its architecture, landscapes, culture and food (some of the world’s finest!)—if not eternal, is certainly enduring, and the easygoing and relaxed Italian lifestyle, il dolce far niente, is still unrivaled. Here, some of Italy’s most amazing landscapes are brought to life, like Lake Como (residence of George Clooney), Venice, Florence and Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and no less magical, the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily. In these mythical surroundings are legendary hotels full of atmosphere, where novels are set, movies are made, weddings are celebrated, and famous love stories consummated: Villa d’Este on Lake Como, the Hotel Splendido...

Mexico Natural by Antonio Vizcaino Hardcover Book
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Antonio Vizcaino - Mexico Natural/ Fabulous photographies in Mexico by Antonio Vizcaino (Photographer) Landscape photography is the link between nature and our emotions : Antonio Vizcaíno. Antonio Vizcaino, was a mexican landscape photographer, editor, and conservationist that published over thirty books in his thirty seven years of photographic career. 2001 was the year that he embarked on his trademark expedition: America Natural – that led him during more than twenty years in a journey of discovery to photograph the most preserved regions of the American continent (“from Tierra de Fuego to Alaska”), immortalizing landscapes with none or extremely limited human impact. Antonio grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco. From a young age, he was a member of a mountaineer group where he learned to love adventure. For his University Education, he moved to Mexico City to achieve his plan of pursuing a career in cinematography which was later redefined when he moved unexpectedly to India. While living in India, he built up a catalog and photographic records of different Indian provinces by working for the Mexican embassy. He developed a passion for photography and moved to New York, at the age of 26, to study at the International Center of Photography. After completing his studies in New York he returned to Mexico where he began to work with museums, archaeological projects, and the portrait of lives and rituals of indigenous populations in Mexico – such as “Lacandones” and “Huicholes”. Before starting America Natural, Antonio collaborated with Mexican institutions on conservation initiatives, as well as pioneered the opening of the Body Shop in Mexico – leveraging his connections with local producers and bringing them to Body Shop’s ethical supply chain. During America Natural, Antonio collaborated with high-profile institutions, writers, scientists, explorers, pilots, among others, and brought to life over 12 landscape photography books of the highest quality. Possible thanks to Carlos Fernandez...
