Ziui Chen Vance is a Michigan-based painter who works in both oil and acrylic paint. Through her artwork, Vance strives to set up the relationship between the viewer and the artwork as one of a guest and host. Her paintings offer the viewer access into her world of imagination. Growing up in a small secluded town in China, she used art as a means of exploration and escape and developed her practice from a young age. Her abstract work are reminiscent paintings by Mark Rothko, while her figurative work has similarities to Chinese contemporary artists Yue Minjun and Zhang Xiaogang. Vance has a BA in design from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and an MFA in Art from the University of Michigan.
