The vintage Navajo rug is woven of native hand-spun wool in a Chinle revival pattern. This style of Navajo Regional Rugs began in the 1920s at Chinle, Arizona. A classic banded Chinle design. The Chinle Trading Post was established in the early 1880s and is located in the Canyon de Chelly area, of northeastern Arizona. Beautiful Navajo rug with an alternating light yellow and cream colors with repeating geometric pattern design.

Early 20th Century hand hooked rug in a wonderful bird and flowers design in earth tone color pattern. The rug has one of the most delightful designs we have seen in vintage American hand hooked rugs. We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in earth tone colors including tan, green, yellow and brown. The colors on the top part have faded because of over 100 years of exposure to light but the original colors are shown in the back. The piece would be a wonderful wall art displayed either on the front or the back.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The striking zenues rug, a design by Sebastian Herkner, is inspired by old Colombian civilizations. When visiting the jewelry museum in Bogota, the designer discovered the gold works by the Zenu culture, which are decorated with so-called Narigeura symbols. These peoples lived in the Caribbean plains, through which the three large rivers Magdalena, Cauca, and San Jorge flow. Routinely they’d flood the fields so the Zenúes built a vast system of channels covering more than 500,000 hectares, controlling the flow of the water so that people and harvest would be protected. These landscapes inspired first the goldsmiths of the Zenúes – and now Sebastian Herkner. “These graphic objects have intrigued me for quite a while. Their symbolism is so narrative and expressive”, says the designer. The result: a subtle, yet striking, wool rug with various pile depths in a gentle crème white.

The striking Zenues rug, a design by Sebastian Herkner, is inspired by old Colombian civilizations. When visiting the jewelry museum in Bogota, the designer discovered the gold works by the Zenu culture, which are decorated with so-called Narigeura symbols. These peoples lived in the Caribbean plains, through which the three large rivers Magdalena, Cauca, and San Jorge flow. Routinely they’d flood the fields so the Zenúes built a vast system of channels covering more than 500,000 hectares, controlling the flow of the water so that people and harvest would be protected. These landscapes inspired first the goldsmiths of the Zenúes – and now Sebastian Herkner. “These graphic objects have intrigued me for quite a while. Their symbolism is so narrative and expressive”, says the designer. The result: a subtle, yet striking, wool rug with various pile depths in a gentle crème white.
