Located in Surfside, FL

Multiple prints formed into a collage mounted on a stretched canvas. Printed November 1989. Mounted December 1989. dated lower left. Includes protective canvas slip covering. Size: 81"H x 72"W (205.74 cm x 182.88 cm). Provenance: Bass Museum, Miami Beach, Florida This was exhibited at the Norton Museum in Palm Beach and Bears their exhibition label verso. Rafael Salazar (Cuban- American photographer) was born in Cuba in 1945 and has been a South Florida resident since 1965. He has photographed the development of the City of Miami as well as Miami’s budding art scene over the years. He is primarily known for his panoramic photographs and photo assemblage montages which have both a documentary quality to them but are full of enchantment and depth. Of great importance to him is the preservation on film of art works, especially those of a transitory nature, this has led him to photograph two of Christo and Jeanne-Claude projects; Miami’s Surrounded Islands and the Pont Neuf in Paris. He has also documented the works of Fernando García, Ed Ruscha, and Philip Johnson. His work draws inspiration from his love of the cosmos, spirituality, architecture, Eastern philosophy, and nature. He has been exhibiting his fine art both nationally and internationally for many years. Salazar’s images have earned him a reputation as an innovative and sensitive artist. He has close ties with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and photographed much of the development of Main Library as well as the early exhibitions and events held there. He photographed the library’s Artmobile, painted by New York Realist artist Lowell Nesbitt, an art gallery on wheels decorated with zebra patterns and native flowers that was in service from 1976 until 1992. He also documented the Grand Opening Celebration of the Metro-Dade Cultural Center held in 1986. Since its 1970 start, the Permanent Art Collection has been recognized nationally as a fearless reflection of Miami’s diversity, and an invaluable chronicle of its artistic and social history. Their collection includes Elizabeth Catlett, Purvis Young and Emilio Sanchez. "Fact and Fiction: The State of Florida Photography...

Adrian Heath, British, mid 20th Century abstract in golds and browns
By Adrian Heath, 1920-1992
Located in Petworth, West Sussex
Adrian Heath (British, 1920 - 1992) Golden Brown Mixed media signed ‘Heath 88’ (lower right) 73 x 54 cm. Adrian Heath (1920–1992) was a 20th-century British painter. Heath was born in Burma and attended Bryanston School in Dorset, southern England. In 1938, he studied art under Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn. In 1939 and 1945–47, he attended the Slade School of Art. He served in the RAF as a tail gunner in Lancaster bombers in World War II, but spent almost the entire war as a prisoner of war at Stalag 383. During this period he became friends with and taught fellow POW Terry Frost to paint. In 1949 and 1951, he visited St Ives, Cornwall, where he met Ben Nicholson. In the early 1950s, he was also associated with Victor Pasmore and Anthony Hill. As such he became the main link between the emerging St Ives School and British Constructivism. He was also influenced by D'Arcy Thompson. In 1953 Heath published 'Abstract Painting: its Origins and Meaning' a slim but perceptive volume appraising the development of abstraction by the early moderns. He exhibited at the Musée Carcassonne in 1948, and at the Redfern Gallery...

Fiber painting: 'Auto-disastro concettuale'
By Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Pereg
Located in New York, NY
The duo was officially born in 2017 with the RAR project, which focuses on the value of the analogy in literature. At the heart of their investigation is the dynamic that leads reading to become writing, and other way the user to become a creator, a maker, mixing roles. The exchange that is established guarantees the transmission, that it goes beyond repetition and finds its completion in transformation. The eternity of an experience, whatever it is (physical, material, emotional, intellectual), is measured by its capacity to be an eternal breeding ground for discovery and knowledge. Their work was exhibited in solo shows by art galleries, such as Raffaella De Chirico Contemporary Art in Turin and Manuel Zoia Gallery in Milan, and in Art Fair such as ArtVerona and WOP in Lugano (CH). In 2021, they were finalists in the Cramum Award. By Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Pereg

The brief text talks about memory, starting from 4 books e mixing 4 different languages: Italian, French, Greek and Sanskrit. Fiber painting: 'KER'
By Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Pereg
Located in New York, NY
The words used in the artworks come from the indo-european root √Ker, which contains a bunch of auspicious meanings, which can be associated with vibration and rhythm and, together, with the flesh as well as with the head and the heart, developing a semantic collaboration that becomes a story. The heart and, on the other side, the brain, by vibrating, make the energy they generate flow in the flesh and animate it. The duo was officially born in 2017 with the RAR project, which focuses on the value of the analogy in literature. At the heart of their investigation is the dynamic that leads reading to become writing, and other way the user to become a creator, a maker, mixing roles. Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s card for Sandra Blow’s 75th birthday (1995) collage
By Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
Located in London, GB
To see our other Modern British Art, scroll down to "More from this Seller" and below it click on "See all from this Seller" - or send us a message if you cannot find the artist you want. Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912 – 2004) Card for Sandra Blow’s 75th birthday (1995) Gouache and collage 34 x 21 cm Inscribed to reverse “For Sandra, Happy Birthday, with love Willie, 13/9/95”. Barns-Graham’s modern design features 70 vividly coloured circles; each one is different from the last, but all are geometrically aligned in neat rows and columns. Sandra Blow’s initials appear separately as “S” and “B” in the design. Blow and Barns-Graham became friends in the 1950s; both spent lengthy periods of time in St Ives, and made major contributions to Britain’s catalogue of post-war art. Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, known as Willie, was born in St Andrews, Fife, on 8 June 1912. Her parents were second cousins, and their respective families were well established representatives of minor Scottish gentry from both the east and west of the country. As a child, Barns-Graham showed very early signs of creative ability. It was at school that Wilhelmina decided that she wanted to be an artist, stating later in life that “painting chose me, not I it”. After school she set her sights on Edinburgh College of Art where, after some dispute with her father (who was an emotional man prone to uncontrolled anger), she enrolled in 1931. During her time at Edinburgh College, Barns-Graham was taught by tutors including portrait painter David Alison and painter William MacTaggart. Her friends there included the influential Scottish painters Robert MacBryde, Robert Colquhoun, and William Gear. After her education, Barns-Graham made study trips to Paris, London, and St Tropez before moving to St Ives, Cornwall, in 1940 (at the suggestion of the Edinburgh College of Art’s Principal Hubert Wellington). Barns-Graham moved near to where a group of modernist artists had settled, at Carbis Bay – this was a pivotal moment in her life. On one of her first evenings there she met the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, who made an immediate and lasting impression on her. She then went on to meet Borlase Smart...

Moi, Flags, Cats and Poppies, Very Large Scale Mixed Media 'Assemblage'
By Armand Avril
Located in Cotignac, FR
Imposing and very large scale mixed media 'assemblage' by French artist Armand Avril. The work includes the French tricolour flag, figures and heads in various poses, his symbolic cat sculptures and large stylised poppies. The work is not signed but comes with a certificate of authenticity from the artist. This montage fully demonstrates Avril's inspiration drawn from tribal art whilst also expressing the humour and joy that he puts into all his work. A very strong sculptural image and a feast for the eyes in searching for and recognising the everyday objects used in making this piece come alive. This montage is made from wood pieces, bottle tops, string, paint, cork, nails buttons, clothes pegs and netting. The more sculpted areas of the piece stand out up to 4cm from the frame. Armand Avril was born in 1926 in Lyon. His father, Marcel Avril was a painter and collector of African art. At 16 Armand became an apprentice shepherd in Provence. Avril could always be seen equipped with a sketchbook and a book on the history of art whilst tending his flock. It was not until the age of 30, in 1956, that Armand embarked on painting as an autodidact, influenced by Raoul Dufy, Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse and the Lyonnaise School of Painting. He exhibited for the first time in 1957. In 1960, he left for a one-year trip to Africa. There he met the painter Jean Arène who introduced him to the village of Cotignac in the Var and to Louis Pons...

The artwork is an excursus between different languages, beyond the historical, cultural and geographical boundaries, starting from the Indo-European root √AR, from which it takes its name. This root can be associated with words such as arena, artillery that refer to a military and warlike environment, but also it has in itself the idea of unity, explored in the artwork, and with it that of cohesion, of right direction; the idea of integrity and of moral rightness. Coexisting languages in AR: Hittite, Sanskrit, ancient Greek, Latin, runic Proto-Germanic and Italian. Between October 2022 and January 2023, they took part in the World Textile Biennale – Italian Act, a series of three exhibitions curated by Barbara Pavan. In January 2023 they attended their first group show in New York at the Ivy Brown Gallery.

French Mixed Media Abstract on Canvas.
Located in Cotignac, FR
Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it. A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele. The background of the painting has been worked broadly with a palette knife whilst the detail has been added quickly and deftly with ink or finer brushstrokes. With the addition of newsprint (in French) the artist may...

Beautiful #9
By Katharina Grosse
Located in 'S-GRAVENHAGE, ZH
Throughout her expansive practice, Katharina Grosse frees abstract painting from the traditional confines of two-dimensional picture planes. The artist is best known for her large-scale in situ installations in which she sprays paint directly onto the surfaces of architecture, interiors, and landscapes—her vibrant hues become inseparable from the land, structures, and grit they cover. Grosse has also painted canvases while they hang on the wall, draped canvases...
