'Quoting Charles Darwin I' a Fine Taxidermy Tableaux by Sinke & Van Tongeren
By Sinke & Van Tongeren
Located in Haarlem, NL
This monumental work is inspired on the famous quote of Darwin. “If everyone were cast in the same mould, there would be no such thing as beauty.” It is because of this quote that we added Darwin to our name Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren. This quote also fits our goal to do all our taxidermy work without the use of factory moulds that are typical for contemporary taxidermy.
We sculpt all our bodies by hand and therefor can create the unique poses like how they line up in this mayor work. We combined many different birds with many different features from many different points of the compass. Together they form a 17th Century like composition of colours and poses. This collection varies from the rare African Congo Peafowl and a gracious Stanley Crane to a regular Dutch chicken.
Quoting Charles Darwin...

Very decorative 1960s Italian hand carved orange alabaster smoking set by Romano Bianchi.

And a very pretty lidded hinged box, which originally would have held cigarettes but also could be used to keep jewellery or little treasures in.
Cigarette sales peaked in the 20th century, people were allowed to smoke in the office, the cinema, at restaurants, indoors and outdoors. Once women were able to smoke freely, smoking became a social norm and in general it was considered an act of elegance and sophistication. Businessmen in the 1960s were rarely seen without a cigarette in their hand.

1925 Silver Austrian Charivari or Watch Chain Necklace with Hunting Charm Fobs
Located in Haarlem, NL
Late 19th-early 20th century silver Austrian charivari or watch chain necklace with Hunting charm fobs. Lovely piece of historic Austrian folkloristic jewellery, a real collector’s item this is.
A charivari is a piece of traditional Bavarian costume jewellery; this one is made of solid silver.
Bavarian men wear the charivari on the belt of their Lederhosen, women wear them as an apron tie or bodice closure.
This piece is quite heavy and sturdy. The size of its shackles and the chain length tells me this actually is a men’s charivari. It traditionally served as jewellery or as a talisman for a successful hunt. The charivari originated from a watch chain, which was attached to the buttonhole of the costume shirt and was hung with various hunting trophies. It could not be bought, was carefully preserved and was passed down in a single family through the generations.
This one is adorned with rare trinkets;
a 1912 coin of the Austrian-Hungarian Emperor
a silver male Dachshund charm
a set of deer teeth in silver (aka Grandel or Gradln)
a silver staggering horse fob...
