Frank Jameson was born in London and later moved to Birmingham where he attended evening classes in drawing and painting at Birmingham Art School. By day he worked as an insurance salesman. During the First World War he became an officer in the Worcester Regiment and was in charge of building bridges and block houses. He returned to the Midlands but then travelled widely by rail, eventually discovering St Ives where he was inspired by the stunning scenery. He stayed and rented the Loft Studio. Krzysztof Pastuszka is an interdisciplinary artist who spans sculpture, drawing, engineering, and computer design.
Much of his work focuses on the complexity and tension in transition/transitioning, giving voice to his experience growing up as a trans kid in the late 90s -2000s. His process consists of idea generation and the testing and creation of prototypes to generate a multitude of parts. He focuses on mechanical movement and the interplay between parts to visualize the intricacies of change and focus on the necessity of each component's ability to cooperate with another and create movement. He uses motion as a way to expose all the micro-operations and mental acrobatics involved in navigating and rejecting the unchanging nature of cisnormativity. He combines his array of skills to envision and compose an elaborate trail of blueprints archiving the hidden and unseen essence of his trans experience--building documentation that didn't exist in his childhood. This is a portrait of an officer from the Irish Volunteers. The Irish Volunteers was a part-time military force raised by local initiative in Ireland in 1778. Their original purpose was to guard against invasion and to preserve law and order at a time when British soldiers were withdrawn from Ireland to fight abroad during the American Revolutionary War.
As a young boy Thomas Lawrence lived with his parents who ran a coaching inn near Bath. Clearly talented from this young age, he drew the passing travellers who stopped at the inn and this soldier may have been one such sitter. Lawrence was only 13 years old when he drew this work. To capitalise upon their son's talents, the family later moved to Bath and sent Lawrence to London in 1787 where he entered the Royal Academy schools at the earliest possible age. Works from such an early period of Lawrence's creativity are rarely to be found today.
This rare early portrait drawn in Bath shows the level of technical skill that Lawrence had reached at 14 years old. His use of colour and tone to depict flesh and all the subtle variations in the texture and pigmentation of his sitter’s face, powdered hair and clothes show how Lawrence conceived pastel as a form of painting and partly explains how he could have made the smooth transition to oil painting so soon afterwards.
When he arrived in Bath from Devizes in 1780, eleven-year-old Thomas Lawrence (1769–1830) was promoted as a natural-born genius like his Renaissance predecessor Raphael. The local press announced the arrival of the boy wonder and his ‘Striking Sketches’, inviting the ‘Nobility and Gentry’ to sit for their portraits.

Artist biography
Born at Mâcon in France, artist Hippolyte Petitjean studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the tutelage of academic artists Alexandre Cabanel and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.
In 1884 Petitjean met and become close friends with the older Neo-Impressionist artist Georges Seurat – whose influence changed the course of Petitjean’s artistic career. Joining with the Neo-Impressionists, Petitjean was influenced by the Symbolists and employed Seurat’s Pointillist technique. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris and at Le Brac de Bouteville. Alongside his work as an art teacher, Petitjean also exhibited to wide critical acclaim in Brussels (1893,1898), Berlin (1898), Weimar (1903) and Wiesbaden (1921).
