Arman is a painter who moved from using objects for the ink or paint traces they leave to using them as the painting itself. He is best known for his "accumulations" and destruction/recomposition of objects. In October 1960, Arman, Yves Klein, François Dufrêne, Raymond Hains, Martial Raysse, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely and Jacques Villeglé, and art critic and philosopher Pierre Restany founded the Nouveau réalisme group. Joined later by Cesar, Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Christo, the group of young artists defined themselves as bearing in common their "new perspective approaches of reality." They were reassessing the concept of art and the artist for a 20th century consumer society by reasserting the humanistic ideals in the face of Industrial Expansion.
In 1961, Arman made his debut in the United States, the country which was to become his second home. During this period, he explored creation via destruction. The "Coupes" and the "Colères" featured sliced, burned, or smashed objects arranged on canvas, often using objects with a strong "identity" such as musical instruments (mainly violins and saxophones) or bronze statues.
The son of an antiques dealer and amateur cellist, the artist absorbed an intense appreciation for music, the art of collecting and the cultivation of discriminating taste from an early age. After studies at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, Arman decamped to Paris to study art history at the Ecole du Louvre. His work in these early years focused on abstract paintings inspired by the work of Nicolas de Staël. An avid reader, Arman sought inspiration through books and art reviews, as well as during frequent road trips throughout Europe with his artist friends from Nice, Claude Pascale and Yves Klein.

BIOGRAPHY
Pollès was born in Paris in 1945
Like Leonard de Vinci in an anatomical search of perfection, of representation of movement, with an almost scientifical or medical glance, Pollès holds the utmost passion of anatomy: he learns about the human body, the complicated hank of muscles, movements of members and all the bodily mechanics. That’s why in 1964 he starts medicine school and along side goes to the Charpentier Academy where he follows art lessons.
In 1966, he encountered sculpture in...

Don Quixote - Resin and Metal Blue Sculpture of Horseman
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Don Quixote is a 38 x 44 inch mix media sculpture. It is made of metal, resin, blue automotive paint, and cardboard. Angelo Canevari's work is often inspired by classical themes and myths. In this sculpture, he revisited with a modern interpretation the famous character of Don Quixote of La Mancha, in the Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Almost Baroque in it's curvilinear shape rendered by the interlacing blue lines, the horseman and the horse emanates a superb emotional tension that culminates in the horse's red eye and the horseman's red head.
This sculpture is part of a very limited number of works that the artist created at the end of his life. It has been featured in a book written by renowned writer Andrea Camilleri.
Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor who comes from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins.

Bucranium - Resin and Metal Surrealist Sculpture of a Skull of an Ox
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Bucranium is a 34 x 19 inch mix media surrealist sculpture. It is made of metal, resin, green automotive paint, and cardboard. It is a surrealist interpretation of the carved decoration, representing ox-skulls, commonly used in Classical architecture for the friezes of Doric temples. The same motif was also later used on Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical buildings. Canevari's contemporary interpretation is evident in the medium he chose to shape this artwork and yet it maintains the same commanding and monumental presence of the classical monuments that have inspired it.. The use of metal and wires to develop a tridimensional sculptural quality, as well as the expressionistic outcome of the imagery, has echoes in some contemporary African sculpture...

Canopo - Anthropomorphic Bronze Sculpture with Opening Elements
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
This bronze anthropomorphic sculpture is part of the "Canopo" series. With a modern interpretation, Canevari revisited the sacred vases of the ancient Etruscan civilization from the regions of Tuscany and Umbria in Italy. The Etruscans were a polytheistic civilization that believed that all visible phenomena were a manifestation of divine power. Canevari interprets the theme's secrecy and mysteriousness in this monumental yet intimate piece. The curved anthropomorphic and totemic shape of the sculpture opens into a magical inside, hiding more secrets and sacred objects. The two sides open like embracing arms, revealing a star-shaped medallion and a glass pendulum. The use of rings and solid bronze blocks hanging and protruding from the surface creates a theatrical play of light and shadows.
Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican, including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins...

Arman wrote, “The bow on the strings releases an explosion of sounds,” in the book Trio à cordes published by GKM Siwert Bergström nearly twenty years ago. The words are his own. The book is a tender homage to music and expresses the artist’s predilection for the tones of violin, cello and double bass.
