André Cottavoz Art
French, 1922-2012
Born in 1922 in Saint-Marcellin near the town of Grenoble in France, André Cottavoz was passionate about painting from an early age. Encouraged by his mother, an artist herself, Cottavoz entered the Fine Arts School in Lyon at the age of 18. Despite having been pressed into service during WWII, Cottavoz continued to paint and draw through the early 1940s.
After the end of War he, along with Pierre Coquet a fellow student from Lyon, co-founded a group of painters who called themselves Noisme, or Sanzisme (without ism), also known as the Lyon School of New Figuration. Comprised of artists under the age of 30, their sole purpose was to paint “in the light” with no particular defining or restricting technique, rejecting all current artistic trends.
In 1953 Cottavoz was awarded the Fénénon Prize by the University of Paris. Such a commendation served to boost his reputation. A close friendship of Japanese art dealer Kiyoshi Tamenaga, whom he met in 1957, opened doors to Japan for Cottavoz hosting exhibitions of his work at his gallery in Tokyo. He died in 2012.to

Le Paysage, French scene
By André Cottavoz
Located in Greenwich, CT
Painted in 1961 in the south of France, Le Paysage's jewel tones and energetic, thick brushwork lure you into not a literal landscape of paint and asks you to discern it's true content. It has charm, expressiveness, abstracted content and idiosyncratic nature! A delight to hang in a smaller intimate spot. The framing is carefully done with silvered 24 karat leafing around the float area of the frame and then a wide panel to allow the viewer to focus in on the composition itself and the texture of the paint.
Andre Cottavoz is very well noted artist of the French and Paris school of art...

Chattanooga-based artist Christina Renfer Vogel’s “Turning Towards the Sun” features paintings that reflect an intentional turn towards beauty in the face of the tension & uncertainty of recent years. Through nourishing periods of focused observation, she has allowed herself to delight in jubilant color, playful pattern & sensual gesture. Her works delight in the delicate unfurling of a tender leaf & the gentle turn towards an open window, as flowers seek warmth & stretch towards sunlight in the space of a painting session.

He was born in 1951. Under the direction of the master Pedro Bermejo, he began his artistic career, quickly highlighting and observing in his works an unusual mastery of drawing.
A very mature painter who has known how to stop time in all his works. His themes are preferably costumbristas although in his work the usual thing is to see eight century themes, with horse carriages, hats, umbrellas and still lifes.
Observing his work reminds us, by the subject, of Maestro...
