Arthur Turner was born in Houston, Texas in 1940. He still works and lives in Houston. He received his BA from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Later, in 1966, he earned his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Awards include: First Award, Clear Lake Arts Alliance Exhibition, Houston, Texas, 2000; Travel grant from Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, 1992; Selected for Outstanding Educator of America Awards Program, 1973; First Award, Corpus Christi Art Foundation Annual Exhibition, Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas, 1973; First Purchase Award, Beaumont Art Museum, 20th Annual Exhibition, 1971; and Purchase Prize, 22nd Annual Texas Watercolor Society Exhibition, San Antonio, Texas, 1971.

Artist Biography: Arthur Turner was born in Houston, Texas in 1940 where he currently lives and works. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1966 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas in 1962. His work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His work is also part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont, the McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Zvi Tolkovsky was among the founders of the current Bezalel Academy. Also among the founders of the Art Department in the late 1960s, he established the silk-screening and papermaking workshops, and was one of the department’s most outstanding teachers until his retirement this decade. He spawned generations of students during his many years of teaching. Tolkovsky is of a generation of teachers who formed a personal relationship with their students. This gallery is too small to contain the works of his many students, from those who were among his first students and are now established artists, to those who have just recently completed their studies.
