An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian blown glass and English sterling silver gilt mounted claret jug; an addition to our wine and drink related silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver gilt and glass claret jug has a ovoid rounded form. The cylindrical neck of the jug is fitted with an impressive sterling silver gilt, hallmarked mount embellished with impressive chased floral and foliate decoration on a matte background, incorporating a scroll bordered vacant cartouche to one side. The underside of the cast silver gilt spout features further floral and leaf designs. The lower portion of the mount is encircled with a stylized scrolling fluted shaped border, in junction with the glass body. The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked cover encompassed with further chased floral decoration, in addition to fluted ornamentation to the domed portion, surmounted with a baluster shaped finial. This antique claret jug is fitted with an impressive cast C-shaped handle with a incurved thumbpiece and a large leaf design to the hand piece. The cast terminal of the handle is further ornamented with floral ornamentation and conjoins to a hinged brace and supporting girdle to the underside of the glass body. The exceptional blown glass body of the jug is embellished with subtle scrolling leaf ornamentation. The base of the jug is ornamented with a hallmarked mount with an incurved shaped rim in junction with the glass foot; the silver overlay to the foot indicates the exceptional quality of the piece. This exceptional example of Victorian silverware retains the original gilding; this has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion to an aesthetically pleasing mellow color. This exceptional antique sterling silver jewelry casket has a rectangular shaped form. The surface of this Victorian jewelry casket is embellished with impressive embossed scroll and leaf decoration, accented with simplified stemmed rose designs. The original hallmarked domed hinged cover is ornamented with further embossed decoration, identical to that of the body, incorporating a scroll bordered vacant cartouche to the centre. The cover of the casket is encompassed with a protruding crimped border. The body and cover of this fine jewelry casket are fitted with the original cushioned satin interior. The domed foot is embellished with a band of fluted ornamentation, with a crimped border to the rim. This antique box is weighted and retains the original fabric covering to the underside.
