Emma Summerton Black and White Photography

b. 1970

Emma Summerton graduated from the National Art School in Sydney, where she studied fine arts, majoring in Photography. Summerton moved to London in 1998, where she worked as an assistant to artist Fiona Banner while starting her career as a photographer. Her breakthrough as a professional photographer came with the collaboration with Terry de Havilland in 2004/2005, after which she held her first solo exhibition, titled Landed, at the Christophe Guye Galerie from August 29 to November 23, 2019, exhibiting a large selection of her most important works. Since then, Summerton has established herself as one of the most talented photographers to emerge in the mid-2000s. Her in-depth technical knowledge, coupled with her eye for detail and love for fashion, has made her images not unique but very distinctive, setting her apart from other photographers working in the industry today. Summerton's work revolves around the themes of fashion, love, desire and intimacy. Her polaroid works are part of a project Summerton started in 1999 as a series of self-portraits, firstly as visual love letters to her then partner and also in an attempt to re-find her voice with photography.

"Leading Horse", Kansas City, 1997
By Pete Kelly
Located in Hudson, NY
This will be shipped direct from the artist to you or your framer. In this photograph a silhouetted horse follows a silhouetted figure closely as they trek through a field. The use of abstracted figures helps emphasize the emotional aspect of Kelly's main theme: the bond between humans and animals. Pete Kelly finds his inspiration in nature and the landscape. Specifically focusing on, "The reclamation by nature of urban settings", Kelly finds a particularly strong aesthetic and power in the beauty of the urban landscape. "I try to see beauty around me, drawing beauty from ugliness by capturing close up textures of fading paint or graffiti, or by reducing the shape of the subject to silhouette." Kelly's fascination with photography, the quality, and flexibility of the medium began at a very early age. Born in England in 1966, and as the son of a military man, Kelly spent most of his childhood growing up in West Germany. After leaving school Kelly enrolled in a photography course with the R. A. F Photographic Unit, based in Wildenrath in Germany. Although this initial training lasted only six months, it established a life long passion and dedication to photography. Already an avid traveller, Kelly initially decided to return to the UK,
to study Graphic Design at Stockport College, before moving to America in 1987. After completing an Internship at an innovative commercial photography studio in America,
Kelly began working as a Photographers Assistant. Working closely with a range of photographers allowed him to intrinsically develop his own
refined sense of aesthetic as well as develop and master photographic theory and technique. Now working as a Fine Art Photographer in his own right,
Pete Kelly utilizes the most cutting edge equipment and techniques,
painting with photography by compositing and layering photographs...

Balcon Con Vista
By Steve Schlackman
Located in New York, NY
This digital print is part of a limited edition set. Steve Schlackman is a lawyer by profession and a photographer by choice. Fascinated by the magical world of photography since his youth, he honed this skill over time, meticulously pouring over all things photographic, technical and creative alike, with unstoppable enthusiasm. Steve’s passion for taking photographs was ignited early on, during a study-abroad trip to Paris, where he immersed himself in all things art historical. Diligence, a strong trait Schlackman is known for, paid off, and after daily meanderings at the Louvre, a great love for art emerged along with hundreds of photographs. These pictures proved to be early tributes to the urban landscape, and although they didn’t amount to full-on series, a seed was planted. The omnipresent tension between the poor neighborhoods of the Cuban capital, as a result of political dictatorship, and the rich Afro-Cuban cultural roots of their inhabitants, whose wealth is represented by their music and feelings, is physically visible in Steve’s use of high contrast, a metaphoric touch on the subject of the light and darkness of the Afro-Cuban heritage. Although intentionally apolitical, the pictures speak volumes about the Cuban status quo and, appropriately, the eternal joy of living despite socio-political hardship. Play, in and of itself a mode to survive the harsh reality, represents another subject Steve is keen on capturing. Whether it is adults playing dominoes...
