Fran Bull (1938-Present)
Fran Bull is an American artist who divides her time between the U.S. and Barcelona, Spain. She was known originally for her Photorealism paintings during the 1970s and 80s.
Bull began her art studies at The Newark Musuem in New Jersey, going on to study painting at Bennington College. Eventually earning an M.A. degree from New York University in Fine Art and Education.
Since the mid 1990s, she began to explore other media. This included performance art, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking. Working in collaboration with master printer Virgili Barbara at Taller 46, has created numerous bodies of work. Picasso, Tapies, Miro, and Saura also worked at Taller 46 with the founder and father of Virgili, Joan Barbara.
Bull on what her influences and inspirations are: “The whole world, everything I see, read, learn, hear, all the art ever made, all the music, poetry and literature – what James Hillman calls the Gloria Duplex – the glorious, amazing, and paradoxical array of everything.”
In 2005 she founded Gallery in-the-Field. A fine art gallery and performance space. The mission is to present the work of provocative, innovative living artists.to

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
The cyanotype (a.k.a. sun-print) process is one of the oldest in the history of photography, dating back to the 1840's.
Cyanotypes were then made famous by Anna Atkins, considered the first female photographer. Inspired by nature, we feel the need to look back at a craft that is handmade, analogue, and using an all-natural light source: the sun.
Our cyanotypes are made by coating high-quality Italian watercolor paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. We then expose it in direct sunlight for several minutes using a photo negative to get the best image quality. Finally, the print is washed and fixed with water to stop the reaction and prevent fading.
What you get is an amazing, royal blue image...
