Swedish 1960s Lounge Chairs in Pine Designed by Yngve Ekström for Swedese
By Swedese, Yngve Ekström
Located in Örebro, SE
This is a pair of Swedish 1960s lounge chairs in pine designed by Yngve Ekström for Swedese. They comes with a robust character, generous volume, patinated color and some signs of the ravages of time - exactly everything the design market looking for and what a sports cabin furniture should have. Reversible, buttoned cushions with striped fabric upholstery that bring to mind bowls of licorice allsorts, colors typical of the time. Brown, green, orange and pink on a base of black. The frame of the armchairs in pine has a square shape with hanging seats at a comfortable angle. Rough legs with large turned knobs. Branded in the frame: SWEDESE DESIGN YNGVE EKSTRÖM MADE IN SWEDEN ____________________ Oskar Yngve Ekström was born 16 June 1913 in Hagafors and died 13 March 1988. He was a Swedish furniture designer, wood carver, sculptor and architect. After his father's death, he started working at carpentry factories in Vaggeryd at the age of 13. He proved talented, and the versatile practice he received in those young years gave him a unique feel for materials and construction. Yngve Ekström came together with other Scandinavian designers such as Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm and Alvar Aalto to create a concept - "Scandinavian Modern Design". In 1945, together with his brother Jerker, he founded the successful furniture company ESE-Möbler, which later became Swedese Möbler. It was sold in 1974. In the mid-1960s, Yngve Ekström designed a range of furniture made from Swedish pine. The furniture was made in twig free pine and bluewood. Two prerequisites which, together with the rustic form, created a unique character. Without a doubt, Yngve Ekström is most associated with the Lamino armchair. 1956, he designed one of the most famous pieces of seating furniture of all time. A timeless design in sustainable Swedish material. Proof of that is the poll that the Swedish monthly magazine Sköna Hem conducted 1999 on the most popular Swedish seating furniture of the 20th century - Lamino won! Yngve Ekström also designed for other companies. For example: In 1955 - Arka, a low cane chair...
