Sea Spine, Original Contemporary Abstract Nautical Mixed Media Work on Paper
By Jenny Brown
Located in Boston, MA
Sea Spine, Original Contemporary Abstract Nautical Mixed Media Work, 2015 11" x 8.5" (HxW) Collage, Acrylic Paint, and Pen on Paper With clear inspiration from natural botanicals and oceanic life, artist Jenny Brown combines found imagery and her own mark making to create delicate yet bold designs. In this work a shell sits against a bright teal background, teeming with life: purple and pink flowers, lush green foliage, and a peacock feather adorn the crustacean home, as if growing directly from its surface. The work is further unified with pink dots painted about, with fine white lines emerging like tentacles or perhaps additional branches and leaves. Images with frames are examples only; this work comes unframed. Artist Commentary: Sea Spine is a unique and fantastic flowering shell, adorned with a peacock feather, lilacs, and the whispers of ocean hair. Inspired by stories of hidden oceans on the distant planets and the joy of discovery, this work was created with pen, ink, acrylic paint, & collage. About the Artist: Jenny Brown is a visual artist living and working in Providence, Rhode Island, whose primary mediums are drawing, collage, and works on paper. Her work brings to life a mythical world of sea creatures and celestial beings, realized through her love of paper ephemera. Jenny studied art at Bennington College and received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2005. In addition to working with galleries in New York, Providence, and metro Boston, Jenny has collaborated with brands such as Hudson-Chatham Winery, Sheaffer Pens...

Blackheart's Rave, 2019, Collage, Mixed media: Marker, Pencil, Drawing, Acrylic and Watercolour on gessoed shopping bag mounted on archival museum board in a Street Art styled bespoke oak wood frame. , 93.2 x 63.2 . 3.5 centimetres total dimension This Rave Dance club-inspired artwork takes the energy found in New York City's nightlife. Rafael Melendez - July 2022 Rafael Melendez (b.1970, USA) renders motifs from high past art with self-taught experimental techniques to produce an unexpected and highly unique visual language riddled with esoteric symbolism. The figures that inhabit his paintings are born from a desire to understand 'abnormal' worldviews, such as Outsider Art, transgressive fiction, and metaphysics. In a constantly evolving practice encompassing drawing, collage, and painting, Melendez strives to visualize/express a moment of unity between beauty and that which doesn't make sense. Melendez starts out as an installation and video artist in 1990s San Francisco. As a student for internationally acclaimed writer Kathy Acker and conceptual artist Nayland Blake...
