Mohammed Ismail Still-life Paintings

1936-1993
Dr. Mohamed Ismail was born in 1936 in Zagazig in Egypt. He graduated and obtained his Masters in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo. He received his Ph.D. in the history of Fine Arts. He held numerous private and collective exhibitions from 1958 – 1969. Dr M.Ismail started his globe trotting from 1969 till 1987. He started with Europe visiting Greece, Spain and France going to North Africa and then to Turkey in the Near East. He moved on to Beirut, Kuwait, Iran and India before breaking camp to his favorite continent the Far East. In Tokyo he knew love and considered it home. He has many acquisitions in several countries and the most important is in Museum of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He obtained many International and Arab prizes. Since 1969 Dr.Mohamed Ismail has not exhibited his work in Egypt. He has been globe-trotting ever since. In South Europe he lived for many years, savoring the Greek and Roman civilizations. He lived the old Andalus in modern Spain. He lived in France, Europe’s art center. He had seen many European states before he rambled on to North Africa then back to the Near East where he lived in Azmir, Turkey, for a long time. He moved to Beirut when it was still the "Bridge of the Mediterranean". He flew to Kuwait then Iran under the bygone Shah. He left Iran to wander about the Gulf States. He bid the oil countries farewell taking wing to India, the thousand religions, and thousands tongues content of wonders. Then he broke. Ismail received his PhD in history of fine arts in Cairo, after completing his degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in the capital. He took inspiration for his art through extensive globetrotting exploits from 1969 to 1987 during which he visited numerous continents and countries. Ismail has been the recipient of various regional and international prizes. His paintings are housed in museums far and wide, most significantly, the Museum of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, which he considered his other home. The paintings from Ismail selected for this showing are both expressionist and abstract deconstructed renditions that span natural, socio- political and unconventional subjects. A saturated palette that never strays from natural, warm and earthen tones, and a mastery of illustrative styles from potent realism to emotive expressionism to imaginative abstraction, are what defines his career’s work. This emotive power he establishes through an uncanny ability to utilize limited color schemes that portray abundant detail, using fundamental color combinations such as contrasting black and white or complementary green and brown to animate intricate and complicated shapes, forms and figures. Ismail’s own versatility is showcased here, and its worthiness.

Bird's-eye view of an apple 46 x 40 cm (Framed 56 x 50 cm) Oil on wood panel JP Marsman's cheerful and hyper-realistic paintings appeal to the imagination on several levels. Artisan; the work is painted so realistically that everything seems 'touchable'. It seems to be 'there'... Colour; the artist isn't afraid to go wild with color. This gives the still lifes a liveliness that is unique for 'still lifes'. Combinations; the subjects that Jean Paul Marsman...

Cello- 21st Century Contemporary Dutch Stille Painting of a Music Instrument
By Rein Pol
Located in Nuenen, Noord Brabant
Rein Pol Cello 93 x 120 cm ( Frame is included 107 x 134 cm) Oil on wood panel, 1987 Looking at Rein Pol's work, it is first and foremost striking that the artist's subjects are very diverse. However, he was mainly known for his paintings 'with trains'. If you look further, you will see that Rein Pol has many sources of inspiration about which he can tell 'stories in paint'. On the website of the Classical Academy in Groningen there is a beautiful teacher portrait of Rein Pol, the first part of this text comes from that site: The fact that Rein Pol made paintings with trains in them gave him the stigma of being a train painter. The 'Blue Angel' is just one of many, often autobiographical, subjects in his paintings. This also applies to nature, landscape, persons and objects from his immediate environment, in which transience is an underlying theme. “As a child I was always drawing. The profession of art teacher appealed to me. It never occurred to me that I could become a painter.' At the Minerva Academy, teachers such as Ger Siks and Matthijs Röling impressed him. Their influence is still noticeable in his paintings: the atmospheric of Röling and the alienating of Siks. After the academy Rein briefly taught at a secondary school. "Not an unqualified success! So when I was asked to come and teach at Minerva, I seized the opportunity with both hands. I have learned a lot myself from teaching academy students.' A violin on fire, a train soaring to heaven, Romance at its best! The passion is in the details, the feathers of a dead bird, the drops on a misty mirror. And that passion is what Romanticism is all about. Rein Pol has been working professionally as a painter since 1976. He always has a keen eye for the expressiveness of the apparently insignificant detail. Every theme that Pol paints is depicted in a clear, harmonious composition with great attention to light, texture, spatial and color effects. The paintings are not intended as an exact copy of the reality around us, but as a representation of our own reality! Hans van Seventer previously wrote: “The subjects of Rein Pol's paintings move between the ordinary and the absurd. He paints musical instruments as well as a bottle containing the fetus of a pig. Sometimes the smell of manure rises from his landscapes, then again a Groningen bum toils along the steep banks of a Norwegian fjord. His self-portraits form a collection in themselves: in the mirror of the bathroom, in a glass display case surrounded by 'gohst of the past', or simply with a jar of pickles as a sign of his dignity”. With his work Pol is counted among the Northern Figuratives. Rein Pol exhibits a lot in the Netherlands. Abroad he exhibited in Germany, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and Indonesia. With the so-called Zwiggelte Group in France, the United States, Canada and Australia. Much of the painter's work is included in private collections. His paintings are also in the possession of, among others, the Drents Museum in Assen, the Smallingerland Museum in Drachten, the Free University of Amsterdam, the ING Collection and the Philips Collection...
