Pierre Chapo Furniture

French, 1927-1987

Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.

Set of 4 S34 elmwood chairs by Pierre Chapo, early edition France 1970-1980
By Pierre Chapo
Located in Renens, CH
Beautiful set of 4 S34 dining chairs in solid elmwood by Pierre Chapo. The S34 is today the rarest and most sought after chair design by Pierre Chapo and certainly one of the most sculptural chairs there is. This set is an early edition probably 1970-1980. The S34 chairs embody the spirit of craftsmanship of Pierre Chapo and the elegance of a brutalist design making them a statement piece in any carefully designed interior. They're not just good-looking; they're built to last, which shows Chapo's commitment to making sustainable furniture. Bibliography: Hugues Magen...

French Brutalist Oak Coffee Table, in the style of Pierre Chapo, 1950s, Handmade
By Pierre Chapo
Located in Forest, BE
Very unique oak handmade massive slays of tree. The top is patinated and shows various shades of brown/brownish colors and honey tones. Elegant and brutalist describe that table properly. The height is 31.5 cm and is 86 cm x 66 cm. Very strong table. Lovely coffee table.
