Mirabile Composto (Enchanted Composition) - Leather and Stone Abstract Sculpture
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari's "Mirabile Composto" is a 106.3 x 106.3-inch leather and stone abstract sculpture composed of 12 elements. This piece is part of a limited number of works where Canevari engaged in a different medium than bronze. The title "Mirabile Composto" comes from a 17th-century quote describing the work of the famous Baroque Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It refers to Bernini's fusion of architecture, sculpture, and painting. In this work, Canevari skillfully plays with different shades of leather and a river pebble to blur the distinction between painting, sculpture, or architectural pieces. The piece projects a magnetic presence. It reminds the immensity and peacefulness of the golden sand mounds in the Sahara desert when viewed from an aerial view.
Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican, including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins.

Arthur Miller Thinks - Expressionist Figurative Painting of Arthur Miller
By Bernard Aptekar
Located in New York, NY
Bernard Aptekar's Arthur Miller Thinks is a large 65.5 x 53.5 inches expressionist figurative oil painting. It portrays American playwright Arthur Miller. The main colors are blue, green, and pink. The surrealistic and expressionistic language used to covey the message, as well as the use of a palette with low contrast colors, has its roots in the work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, who Apterkar met at age of 11.
The outcome is an imagery of an extraordinary visual impact and absolutely unique to Aptekar's own creative process. Arthur Miller, the author of the play "Death of a Salesman...

Head of a Woman - Surrealist Drawing of a Lady Made With Melted Polyethylene
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Head of a Woman is a 25 x 20 inch surrealist drawing made with melted polyethylene. Canevari's work is often inspired by classical themes and myths. The mythology is often re-visited through his personal memories giving shape to figures that are a combination of historical mythical characters and the imagery of his innermost self. This Head of a Woman is the perfect syncretism of this creative process: maybe the head of an ancient Mother Goddess or just a minimalistic representation of a character from Canevari's memories. The melted polyethylene used to draw the figure gives it a crystal sculptural quality of surrealistic appearance.
Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor who comes from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins...

The Football Players
By Bernard Aptekar
Located in New York, NY
As art historian and writer Suzanne Ramljak wrote "the ambivalent relationship between humanity and machinery has informed Aptekar's art from the start and remains a central theme in his work. Like many of the issues Aptekar addresses, technology is not without contradiction."
The shocking imagery of juxtaposed human and natural forms with mechanical elements, using clear contours and colors, is certainly not oblivious of Fernand Leger latest work and what he called "the law of contrast". At the same time, the political and social commentary that are a constant inherent component of Aptekar's work has it's roots in the work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, who Apterkar met at age of 11.
The outcome is an imagery of an extraordinary visual impact and absolutely unique to Aptekar's own creative process.

Canopo - Anthropomorphic Bronze Sculpture with Opening Elements
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
This bronze anthropomorphic sculpture is part of the "Canopo" series. With a modern interpretation, Canevari revisited the sacred vases of the ancient Etruscan civilization from the regions of Tuscany and Umbria in Italy. The Etruscans were a polytheistic civilization that believed that all visible phenomena were a manifestation of divine power. Canevari interprets the theme's secrecy and mysteriousness in this monumental yet intimate piece. The curved anthropomorphic and totemic shape of the sculpture opens into a magical inside, hiding more secrets and sacred objects. The two sides open like embracing arms, revealing a star-shaped medallion and a glass pendulum. The use of rings and solid bronze blocks hanging and protruding from the surface creates a theatrical play of light and shadows.

Vecchio Papa (Old Pope) - Surrealist Drawing Made With Melted Polyethylene
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Vecchio Papa (Old Pope) is a 25 x 20-inch surrealist drawing made with melted polyethylene. It is a sarcastic, ironic, mocking head portrait of an old Pope. The melted white polyethylene used to draw the figure on the black canvas gives it a crystal sculptural quality of surrealistic appearance. This artwork is part of a limited number of pieces the artist created at the end of his life. It has been featured in a book written by renowned writer Andrea Camilleri.

Don Quixote - Resin and Metal Blue Sculpture of Horseman
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Don Quixote is a 38 x 44 inch mix media sculpture. It is made of metal, resin, blue automotive paint, and cardboard. Angelo Canevari's work is often inspired by classical themes and myths. In this sculpture, he revisited with a modern interpretation the famous character of Don Quixote of La Mancha, in the Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Almost Baroque in it's curvilinear shape rendered by the interlacing blue lines, the horseman and the horse emanates a superb emotional tension that culminates in the horse's red eye and the horseman's red head.
This sculpture is part of a very limited number of works that the artist created at the end of his life. It has been featured in a book written by renowned writer Andrea Camilleri.

Bucranium - Resin and Metal Surrealist Sculpture of a Skull of an Ox
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Bucranium is a 34 x 19 inch mix media surrealist sculpture. It is made of metal, resin, green automotive paint, and cardboard. It is a surrealist interpretation of the carved decoration, representing ox-skulls, commonly used in Classical architecture for the friezes of Doric temples. The same motif was also later used on Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical buildings. Canevari's contemporary interpretation is evident in the medium he chose to shape this artwork and yet it maintains the same commanding and monumental presence of the classical monuments that have inspired it.. The use of metal and wires to develop a tridimensional sculptural quality, as well as the expressionistic outcome of the imagery, has echoes in some contemporary African sculpture...
