This fine 1940s flecked grey wool jacket retailed in high end American department store Schleisner and Co, Baltimore. There is a small additional label inside from the Coat and Suit Industry National Recovery Board which was a Union-made label used from 1936-1972. This darted and contoured jacket features a rounded v-neckline, with an overlapping button closure, and a further four pearlescent buttons running down the front. It has sloped seamed shoulders with slight padding to add structure, finished off with a button to each cuff. The rear of the garment is cut in a slight V shape, almost reminiscent of a riding jacket, and finished with another button. There is a tiny concealed 'train ticket...

This is a beautiful example of Madame Gres's work during a pivotal moment in the fashion House's history when she expanded her design repertoire for couture evening dresses and the fluid Greco - Roman Goddess draping she was so famous for. It is certainly a graceful and early 1970s design and is made from the most beautiful silk embroidered tulle that overlays a fine black silk shift dress. The dress has an empire line bodice and a low scoop cut neckline, ruffle edged in a double layer of the tulle. The long sleeves are sheer with a ruffle cuff collar that echoes the neckline. The dress is Princess seemed and fastens to the rear with the original metal zip whilst the tulle overlay has popper closures. The haute couture label is located on the right hand side of the dress just under the arm. The dress is entirely handmade and in absolutely beautiful vintage condition. There are no issues of any note and it looks barely worn. We estimate this dress would suit around a UK 8-10, US 4-6. Haute couture dresses of this calibre are rare to market, especially in wearable condition and we doubt we will ever see another. Madame Grès - was the name of the French haute couture fashion house established in the 1940s and lasting through until the 1980s. Madame was Germaine Émilie Krebs who in her early years also created designs under the Alix label. She was renowned for her attention to detail and minimalistic draping techniques fashioning fluid silk jersey straight onto the wearer. Her pieces can fetch well over five figure sums and are held in every major museum collection worldwide. She was one of the most revered couturiers of the 20th century and died short...

This is a phenomenal 1970s Ossie Clark boutique blouse with an important and well documented print by Celia Birtwell. It is fully labelled and additionally has the Quorum boutique retail label which sold Ossie's costly mainline collections - they are much rarer than Radley retailed pieces. There are some wonderful softer design details in this blouse from the puff sleeves to the long tapered cuffs and the gathered yoke giving it a loose romantic poet's style aesthetic as the blouse is without darts. The print is a very beautiful floral design against a navy background in quality rayon fabric. This is a remarkable piece of fashion history and has been in my personal collection for years but it is time for someone else to enjoy it. The condition is very good overall. There is slight fade on the sleeve elements of the arm - this is more noticeable on the right side than the left - the photos are a good representation and this never bothered me as it is so slight. Additionally there are two very small, minor grazes on the back towards the top of the neck; not quite holes but the fabric has thinned. They are not noticeable when worn. The last very minor issue is there is a small stress parting along the seam on the left forearm sleeve. This is on the underside and therefore cannot be seen when worn. This has been dry cleaned and is ready to wear and I can be seen modelling this top for a vintage photo...

This mid to late 1960s cocktail or party dress is composed of three tiers and a lace ruffle panelling at the bottom of the dress. Panels are made of a transparent black floral lace and black satin. The satin fabric appears to have a grain, and is lined in black polyester. The solid panels are cleverly placed to cover the bust and crotch area. The collar is a scoop neck and two bust darts can be found on the front. This dress is in excellent vintage condition save for a couple of very small pulls which are unnoticeable when the dress is being worn. Labeled a UK size 12, this runs smaller than modern sizing. This is a fine Jean Muir 1960s dress and matching tassel scarf and is without question, the best ensemble from this designer we have ever had in our collection. Early in her career, Muir worked with Liberty fabric and this striking psychedelic silk print could certainly be a Liberty design. It features a riot of bright purple, blue, orange, pink and green tones in a stylised paisley print. Each of the designs, contained in long rows of bands, is slightly different. The dress is a high shirtwaister design with an empire line bust, a low scoop neck and it fastens at the front with 18 fabric buttons and loops. There is a little upturned ruffle on the waistband and the skirt is gently gathered. The sleeves have a gathered cuff and upturned ruffle that echoes the waistline. The dress bodice is not lined; however, the skirt is lined in a quality pink viscose. Labelled a UK size 12, this is small in today's sizing and probably a better fit for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. The accompanying scarf is a double thickness triangular shape with a row of hand tied purple tassels down one side. It is doubled sided with one print matching the dress while the other side is the same design but in a different colourway, focusing on blues, turquoises and orange. It's an absolutely beautiful piece worn alone or could could be styled either side to compliment or contrast the dress colourway. A very rare set indeed to find in superb vintage condition and from the very earliest part of Jean Muir's career. One for the serious collector, wearer of fine boho...
