A Good Quality And Attractive Pair Of Late 18th Century, George III Period, Mahogany Bowfront Bedside Night Tables, or Pot Cupboards, Having Well Figured Tops Over Hinged Doors With Replacement Brass Handles, Raised On Elegant Square Tapered Legs.
This pair of Georgian mahogany bedside tables are perfect for exactly what the name suggests, ie placing either side of a bed. They are a good size, tall but not overly wide or deep and stand on very elegant legs. They also have doors which of course allows you to shut away all of those bedside items which you don't want laying around.
They are good quality, elegant and remain in excellent overall condition.
Another nice feature is the fact they are a true pair, with the doors hinged in opposite directions, unlike so many others which we come across that have been matched into pairs and show minor differences.
As with all items which we offer for sale these georgian pot cupboards...

An Extremely Attractive And Particularly Charming Mid 18th Century, Georgian Mahogany Miniature Chest, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Two Short And Three Long Drawers, Retaining Original Brass Ring Handles, Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet.
Although there has always been a large amount of discussion and conjecture as to the original purpose of antique miniature furniture it will be almost impossoble for a definitive answer to be given for by far the majority of surviving pieces.
The two well known and accepted purposes were either as an apprentice piece, meaning that the item may well have been made by a hopeful young man looking to secure himself a job at the local cabinet making workshop and using the piece as an audition for entry, or alternatively as a travelling salesmans sample piece where scale models of the full size items which a workshop could produce were created, allowing the salesman to take them away and use them for taking orders.
We believe that this wonderful little antique miniature chest...

A Good Quality And Charming Early 19th Century Regency Period Mahogany Miniature Table Cabinet, Having Rectangular Top Over Superbly Figured Panelled Doors, Enclosing Four Concealed Long Drawers, Raised On Elegant Original Turned Feet.
This attractive little piece of Regency miniature furniture, as the name suggests, was probably made as a simple stand alone cabinet to be placed on top of a table top type surface. Alternatively it may have been specifically made as a travelling salesmans sample piece of furniture. Whichever its original purpose it is incredibly useful for modern day living however and we think it could be used to hold a wide variety of different day to day items.
The mahogany veneers have been very carefully chosen to ensure that they are well figured and this results in a very decorative item. Overall the quality of construction is also excellent and it has clearly been made in a well respected workshop.
As with all items which we offer for sale this antique table cabinet...

Sometimes there is debate as to the original purpose of antique miniature furniture. There was also some miniature furniture of a particular scale which would have been made as dolls house furniture...

A delightful Regency Period burr oak miniature chest having
Superbly figured top above two short & three long drawers with
Original brass knobs flanked by elegant fluted stiles raised on
Original brass ball feet
(Often much debate is had as to whether miniature furniture was
made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking
for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase
their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans
sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as
scale models in advance of a road trip during which the salesman
would travel the country showing prospective clients
the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and
take orders from. This particular miniature chest of drawers
is probably the latter and would have been made as a sample
piece. The construction is exquisite and the attention to tiny
detail phenomenal in all honesty. They work that would have
gone into constructing this with all of its fine details would actually
have been more of a challenge and taken a more skilled
craftsmen than its full size counterparts would have done.
It is also super quality and unusual being constructed from burr
oak which has taken on an exceptional rich colour and patina
over the years of its life. A really quite charming piece of
antique miniature furniture...
