Mid-Century Italian Brutalist Side Tables Iron-Glass-Nickel by Banci, Florence 1960s The tables are very refined in design and workmanship. A nickel-plated stainless steel supporting frame is decorated with 4 rounded, solid 1.5 cm thick iron plates. These trays are suspended from the frame and have a ribbed, roughly sawn outer edge. A rectangular, nickel-plated spacer sits in the middle and the glass plate sits on it, which is secured with a large, nickel-plated ring with a ball. The glass plates are also 1.5 cm thick and have a shell decoration on the edge. This decoration is worked by pinching out and must be done by hand. This ensures that the outer edges of the coarse iron are perfectly joined to the glass edge. The nickel-plated support frame adds even more tension to the mix of materials. The design is artistic and chic, the tables can be used both in an elegant interior as a contrast and in a casual-cool area. The tables are very heavy and weigh around 40 kg per table. The table height without the ring is 44cm, the ring with the ball has a height of 8cm. For more than a century, Italian manufacturer Banci Firenze has been known throughout the world for its extensive range of innovative lighting and furniture inspired by geometry, nature and modernist architecture. Founded in 1899 by Giuseppe Banci, Banci Firenze began as a workshop in Florence, initially specializing in the restoration of glass, crystal and iron chandeliers. In the 1900s, the company developed further - Banci Firenze became a manufacturer of exquisite lighting fixtures made of hand-blown glass, hand-crafted wrought iron, bronze with gold leaf. Although the company is best known for its carefully designed chandeliers, sconces, ceiling lights and table lamps, Banci Firenze's range expanded to include other furnishings in the mid-20th century. Particularly popular in the 1950s and 1960s was Banci Firenze's Hollywood Regency-style Collection'S, such as glass-topped side tables with gilded floral accents and bases. In the 1970s, Banci Firenze's most popular designs included dining room tables and cocktail tables characterized by mid-century modernist and Art Deco elements. In the 1980s, Banci Firenze attracted attention for a unique storage piece designed by Italian architect and designer Ugo La Pietra. Abstract Painting Mixed Media in gray-white-rust-black by Hassan Bourkia Marrakesh 2008 Hassan Bourkia was born on December 19, 1956 in El Ksiba, near Beni Mellal. He is a writer, translator and visual artist. He has been teaching literature since 1982 and exhibiting in the main art galleries in Morocco and in various places abroad since the early 1990s. He recently participated in the Buenos Aires Biennial of Contemporary Art (Bienalsur), and his works are in several large private collections and museums. Hassan Bourkia has been exploring the field of memory for several years to speak about the drama of immigration and the suffering caused by the trauma of conflicts around the world. From his own life he draws the experience of an intimate apocalypse that leads him to work on collective wounds through archives and fragments. He lives and works between Beni Mellal and Marrakech. His childhood and youth are characterized by the restless search of an artistic expression for his own sensibility and perception, as well as his very strong sense of existence. From that moment onwards, he allows his own existence to be overwhelmed by his art until he becomes his art’s main subject, firmly convinced that self-consciousness and stylistic research are closely linked. This immense labour will find the truest expression of his artistic and existential sensibility in Surrealism. From his early career to action painting. During the early 1970s, the artistic environment in Rome and his successful participation to several collective art exhibitions, especially with the “Pennellacci” club, leads him to his public debut and paves the way to a very important and busy period. Later on, after enormous intellectual labour, he approaches the gestural informal painting, also known as “Action Painting”. This art movement was mostly developed in the United States, and is also called Abstract Expressionism. The most celebrated artist of this movement is Jackson Pollock. In Europe, the French painter Jean Fautrier begins incorporating his paintings with plastic materials that burst out of the canvas, overcoming the boundary between two-dimensional images and plastic forms. Beginning from 2000, after several years of artistic inactivity due to health problems, Danilo Picchiotti, today more culturally open-minded than ever, returns to painting with determination, strength and energy giving birth to his new “GESTURAL MATTER” period.
