American Impressionist Paul Cornoyer, "Bearksin Neck, Rockport"

Paul Cornoyer, born in 1864 in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American Impressionist artist. Initially studying at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts under Halsey C. Ives, he began his artistic journey painting in a style reminiscent of the Barbizon School. His first exhibition took place in 1887, followed by further studies in Paris at the Académie Julian under notable instructors such as Jules Lefebre, Louis Blanc, and Benjamin Constant. Inspired by French Impressionism during his travels to Paris, London, and Venice, Cornoyer embraced a more fluid and tonal style, particularly evident in his landscapes and cityscapes.
Returning to St. Louis in 1894, he painted a mural at the Planters Hotel, depicting the city's birth. Over the next six years, little is known about his work except for the creation of a significant triptych titled "A View of St. Louis," which became iconic for the city.
Encouraged by the artist William Merritt Chase, Cornoyer moved to New York City in 1899, where he gained recognition for his urban cityscapes, particularly scenes after rainfall. Capturing the essence of city life with vivid depictions of streets, carriages, and towering buildings, Cornoyer's work became synonymous with New York's urban landscape. He also taught at the Mechanics Institute and mingled with prominent artists such as Childe Hassam and J. Alden Weir, expanding his artistic circle to include New England art schools.

The painting (with a Salvador Rosa-style gilded frame 88 x 116 cm) depicts a group of four children who are playing outside on a swinging seesaw; we are probably dealing with a prank, as can be seen by the satisfied expression of the child on the right at the expense of the one in the foreground, who seems to be supported by the others, perhaps because of the fear felt.
They are dressed in the same way, with black or brown ankle boots and a kind of double-breasted jumpsuit with a rich lace collar reminiscent of the jabots of dames, blue for the one in the foreground, brick-colored for the other three.

This love of artistic expression continued to grow over the years, fuelled in part by the success of his creations.
At the age of eighteen, this passionate painter decided to devote his life entirely to fine art, combining his studies at art school with working in a restoration studio.
Here he discovered the secrets and painting techniques of the old masters, it fuelled his interest in art history and art movements.
The extraordinary thing is that so coincidentally the history of painting became synchronized with his artistic life.
Wouter Janssen studied the painting technique of his favourite painter Rembrandt for more than ten 10 years. He became wanted to unravel the mystery of the master. The paints used at that time were naturally rubbed by himself to approximate a historical effect.
In a subsequent episode, he immersed himself in the technique of Romanticism. His paintings, mostly landscapes, were made in the style of the Dutch Romantic School. And led to unprecedented success in America. For example, with one-man exhibitions on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
After watching a documentary on the life of Vincent Van Gogh, Wouter Janssen wondered what it would be like to paint in an impressionist style. It came naturally, after consuming half a bottle of gin, with extraordinary results as a result.
The urge to complete the historical circle was further completed by his transition to Zero Art...

Salvatore Colacicco is a world-renowned marine artist who was
born in 1935 in Bellagio, near Lake Como and studied at Brera Academy,
Milan. He has been living in England for over thirty years. Nearly all
Salvatore Colacicco's paintings during that time have been
exported to the United States and sold through Tonkins of Nantucket Island.
These now adorn the walls of many a Board Room and Directors
Office throughout the States.
Colacicco's style of painting very much reminds one of
marine artists throughout the 19th century with an obvious Italian feel.
Among Colacicco's achievements were 26 panels illustrating the
history and development of the paddle steamer
(of which he had made a special study of those used on the Italian Lakes),
painted for the Russell Cotes Museum in Bournemouth and
most works by Salvatore Colacicco fetch good figures even at auction

The son of an English father and a Dutch mother, Harry Leith-Ross was born in the British Colony of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean a thousand miles off the southeast coast of Africa. His first formal art instruction began in England under Stanhope Forbes, followed by studies with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris. Leith-Ross came to the United States to enroll at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1910, and then to Woodstock, in 1913. It was in Woodstock at the Art Students League, under the tutelage of Birge Harrison and John F. Carlson, that Leith-Ross would receive the training that most influenced his career as an artist.

Janet Jennings is known for her luminous oil & watercolor paintings. After working for Lawrence Rubin at Knoedler Contemporary Art, Jennings maintained a studio at Waverly Studios in New York City. She began as a Color Field painter, working on canvas and linen. Janet moved to Amagansett, NY in 1981 and switched her focus to landscape painting. Her career path led her to teach at The Parrish Art Museum, Guild Hall & The Victor D’amico Institute of Art. From 1993 to 1998, she was the Chair of the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Preserve Program. Jennings maintains ties to the art community as an educator and curator. She is a member of the East Hampton Arts Council, an advocacy group for performing and visual artists of East Hampton. Ms. Jennings maintains a painting studio in East Hampton and currently teaches oil and watercolor classes. In 1997, she was a founding member of CMEE, The Children’s Museum of the East End. Working with Lee Skolnick and JoAnn Secor, she was an exhibit designer and fabricator for “Time and Place, Light and Space”, the initial installation at Guild Hall, which launched CMEE. She was a lead designer for the permanent exhibition installation of CMEE, located in Bridgehampton, NY. Jennings received her BFA from the University of Dayton and attended The Dayton Art Institute, Antioch College and The Art Students League. The son of an English father and a Dutch mother, Harry Leith-Ross was born in the British Colony of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean a thousand miles off the southeast coast of Africa. His first formal art instruction began in England under Stanhope Forbes, followed by studies with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris. Leith-Ross came to the United States to enroll at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1910, and then to Woodstock, in 1913. It was in Woodstock at the Art Students League, under the tutelage of Birge Harrison and John F. Carlson, that Leith-Ross would receive the training that most influenced his career as an artist.
