Original title "Carte de l'Océan Atlantique avec l'indication aproximative des voyages d'Amerígo Vespucci pour acompagner la collection de ses écrits par F. Ad. de Varnhagen - Iles Bermudes". The artwork is from the book Amerígo Vespucci, Son caractère, ses écrits (même les moins authentiques), sa vie et ses navigations, avec une carte indiquant les routes, by Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, Visconde de Porto Seguro; Amerigo Vespucci and published in 1865. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Nemesis is an original burin by the old master Galle Philips (Haarlem, 1537-Antwerp, 1612), the plate n. 20 from the series "De deis gentium imagines iconical, aeneis tabulis for Philipp.Galle exaratae; et variis distichis ab Hug. Illustrated fable", Antwerp, 1581. Our specimen is printed on laid paper, glued on secondary support, trimmed within the impression. Beautiful and fresh artwork representing a landscape with mountains and trees realized in black and white with contrasting strokes that define the whole composition. The work in hand-signed and numbered and has been realized by the French artist Léopold Lévy (Paris, 1882 - Kremlin-Bicêtre, 1989). His edition of De la nature (De Rerum Natura) illustrated with 41 original etchings is considered one of the most beautiful artist books. He was friend of Charles Edmons Kayser, André Derain and Henri Vergé-Serrat. From 1936 to 1949 he worked in Turkey.
