Kawase Hasui Japanese Woodblock Print "Cloudy Day in Mizuki, Ibaraki Prefecture"

A beautiful, dark, and rich woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Kawase Hasui. This print titled "Cloudy Day in Mizuki, Ibaraki Prefecture ((Mizuki no kumoribi Ibaraki-ken))" was originally published in 1946 and it depicts a woman walking a child down a lane towards the turbulent ocean on an overcast day. The print is properly stamped with Hasui's cipher in the lower left. Artist's markings and the publisher's stamps on the margins are hidden behind the matte. Appears to have been originally framed in Japan (with wood backing). A rarer and harder-to-find image by Hasui. Would make a fantastic addition to any Japanese art or print collection. Prints of this work can be found in such prominent collections/ museums as: Los Angeles County Museum of Art Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Harvard Art Museums Museum of New Zealand Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Framed dimensions: 16" high, 18.5" wide, 1" deep Viewable image: 10" high, 13.25" wide.
