19th Century Cigar Box With a Terrier in a Dog House, French, c1880
About the Item
19th Century Cigar Box With a Terrier in A Dog House, French, c1890. Exceptionally rare and highly sought after, this whimsical piece features an adorable cast brass terrier with a hat and glasses guarding his master's cigars. The walnut case with spring release top opens by pulling a string. The front decorated with a cast, gilt brass trailing vine, and a match holder in the form of a bucket which is flanked by a carved broom. The base has a gilt brass beaded accent. The name plate above the dog, "Parlez au Portier," (Talk to the Doorman). The doormat is a brass match striker plate.
