About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver archaic knight helm/helmet peppers; an addition to our 19th century silver cruets/condiments collection.
These exceptional antique Victorian English sterling silver peppers are realistically modelled in the form of a knight's helm.
The surface of each piece is embellished with applied and engraved decoration, replicating the rivets and structure of the helmet.
The gorget and skull of each piece are further ornamented with engraved foliate decoration, amidst the aforementioned anatomy details.
Each exceptional pepper is fitted with a hinged hallmarked visor/cover, incorporating pierced 'pepper' holes reflecting the vertical pales of the vent-tail; this hinged component provides access to permit each pot to be filled.
Condition
These antique 19th century silver peppers are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.
Full hallmarks to the surface of each base and part hallmarks to the surface of each cover are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique silverware.
