Vintage Headhunter Brass and Trade Bead Necklace, Nagaland

About the Item

Vintage headhunter brass and trade bead necklace, Nagaland Trade beads with a brass medallion of a hunter's head shaped like a fish as the centerpiece, attributed to the Konyak and contiguous tribal groups. These types of brass heads are fashioned from box tops originating in Assam or Bengal and coming into the Naga realm via Manjour, and so are sometimes referred to as "Manjour Medailions". These necklaces were worn by those who participated in successful head hunting raids. It was restrung in the 2000s on flexible wire with a silver fitting.
