Italian Neoclassical Style Painted Four Panel Folding Screen

About the Item

Dramatic hand painted Italian four-panel folding floor screen made in the neoclassical taste. Each panel has two gracefully arched windows with parcel gilt borders over a black ground. The windows are decorated with mythical scenes of figures amid scrolling floral swag topped with an urn form finial. The rich reds and verde colors stand out boldly against the black ground. The painted finish has an aged distressed patina with fine craquelure. The panels are conjoined by patinated brass hardware. The reverse side is black with gilt border highlights on the panels. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
