19th Century Italian Neoclassical Chest of Drawers

About the Item

A Neoclassical style chest of drawers from the 19th century, acquired from the legendary American business magnate, T. Boone Pickens. Born in Italy, hand-crafted, carved and painted, decorated in relief renderings, the petite rectangular case fitted with three drawers, retaining the original patinated bronze fittings. Adorned in beautiful shades of muted, monochromatic grey, contrasting white trim, embellished with the most exquisite raised decoration, in classical motif bas relief carvings, grisaille painted to enhance the reliefs to imitate sculptures, depicting putto amidst naturalistic scene with swan, wreath band flora, flaming sun holding fiolate vine, classic era woman in dress, acanthus leaves, urn, floral medallion with trailing floral vine, raised on tapering legs. Beautifully aged patina, warm, rustic, craquelure, distressed, chippy paint. Very solid, sturdy and stable. A wonderful way to add elegant sophistication to any space, subdued color tones, rich decoration, clean lines create a timeless simplicity full of warmth, comfort, unique character, charm. Boone Pickens (b.1928 -2019). An American business magnate, billionaire, financier and philanthropist. J. Garrett Auctioneers had the pleasure of presenting this chest from the iconic Texas and Oklahoma oil tycoon, T. Boone Pickens' Dallas home and private collections of exceptional 18th and 19th Century furnishings and accessories. The breadth of T. Boone Pickens' career is impressive. He built one of the largest independent natural gas oil companies in the United States and flourished as an entrepreneur thereafter, generating hundreds of billions of dollars in the process. Among his lengthy accolades, Time magazine has identified him one of its "100 Most Influential People", Financial World named him "CEO of the Decade" in 1989, and Oil and Gas Investor identified him as one of the "100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century."
