19th Century Italian Charles X Period Flame Mahogany Chest of Drawers

About the Item

A rare, likely one-of-a-kind antique Italian mixed wood fiolated scroll flourish marquetry chest of drawers commode. Hand-crafted in Italy in the early 19th century, in period Charles X Restoration (1824-1830) taste, having a rectangular cherry top over conforming solid wood case fitted with five drawers, including a concealed top and bottom drawer with concave molded drawer front and three large drawers with striking crutch cut flame mahogany drawer fronts, flanked by distinctive contrasting maplewood floral marquetry inlaid undulating shaped stiles that gives the chest a bombe appearance, boarded back marked 118, rising on bun front feet. Dimensions: (approx) 37" Tall, 48" Wide, 24" Deep Condition: Presents very well. Great shape overall, especially considering its nearly 200 years old. Nicely aged warm rich patina and lustrous sheen. Retaining original antique character marks and charm throughout, including evidence of old restorations, repairs and poor touchups, all typical wear consistent with age and indicative of use, nothing that detracts from the aesthetics or functionality but only adds to the sophisticated antique character, elegant warmth, old world charm, and rich historical depth that can only be acquired over very long periods of time! Delivered cleaned, waxed, with hand rubbed polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use and generational enjoyment!
