Modern - Contemporary, multi-colour, Oil on Canvas Painting by Margit Wittig

About the Item

'Celebration of Colour' finished in 2020, reflects the contrasting nature of colour in spring. Using a spatula rather than a paint brush Wittig layers the paint creating surface tension, and puts emphasis on the relationship between hues of daffodil yellow, shamrock green, sky blue, rose pinks punctuated by rock gray. The painting has a modern pewter frame to further accentuate the contrast. Painted in Margit Wittig's London Studio, this picture took over a year to complete. 'I never know when I will finish a painting" says the artist 'but when I've completed the last stroke, the painting tells me". She works on multiple pieces and subjects at the same time and has been known to paint over or destroy content she is not happy with - regardless of the length of time spent developing it. Some people see an abstract of colour, others - from a distance - interpret it as a European coastal rocky cliff scene but Wittig's view is that interpretation of art is with the beholder. The painting changes as it moves from artist to viewer. Likewise this painting morphs from one subject to another as it moves from the close-up to distant point of view. The picture and frame together measure 4 x 162 x 110cm. Margit Wittig is a London based painter as well as a sculptor and designer of functional objects such as lighting, occasional furniture and accessories. Her works are placed with collectors globally.

  • European Contemporary Red Sculptural Candlestick by Margit Wittig
    By Margit Wittig
    Located in London, GB
Margit Wittig has used her sculptural skills to create beautifully-crafted, well-proportioned candlesticks, which are compositions of her unique signature pearl-shaped designs. Each candlestick begins as hand-sculpted spheres which are used to create moulds in three sizes. Margit refers to these finished spheres as pearls. These highly original, eye-catching candlesticks come in three different sizes depending on the number of pearls: three, five and seven. The candlesticks are cast in resin and Jesmonite mixed with pigment at the start of the process, to ensure color consistency. Some of the candlesticks are subtly finished with hand painted gold patina to reflect the shimmer of the candle. Each one is made with a solid brass drip catcher and can be cast in a variety of colors. Working from her studio in London, as well as candlesticks, Margit creates artistic lighting...

  • "23 V: Countercurrent, " Large Contemporary Oil Painting on Canvas by Renée Rey
    Located in New York, NY
In her mixed-media artwork "23 V Countercurrent," Rey explores narratives connecting nature, technology and sustainability. Fusing a Postmodern oeuvre of abstraction and surrealism, with a nod to Tiepolo, Constable and Dali, the artist ignites saturated stems of red, pink, and green pigments in a world where color and form flow in and out of multi-perspectives. Springing forth through space is symbolic iconography. Sea life including fish, manatee and coral swim through currents of air, water and land as the artist examines the dynamic link between them. Engineered towers protect vital H2O for human sustenance while elements of the periodic table depict the equality of all that exists on earth and beyond. Renée Rey...

  • Oil Painting on Canvas by Yang Qian
    Located in Atlanta, GA
Title: Hiding in The Jungle Artist: Yang Qian (Chinese; B. 1959) Medium: Oil on canvas Years: purchased circa 1990 A Palm Beach, FL collection An early work by Yang Qian during his sojourn in Florida, USA. The series delved into art history with reinterpretation and overlaying symbolism. The painting is set in a moody tropical jungle at night and is a clear reinterpretation and a dialogue between Henri Rousseau's The Dream and Paul Gauguin's La Femme du Roi. Although the two French artists were contemporaries, they may have not intersected in their personal lives. Pioneering and ground-breaking for their time, their work were celebrated posthumously and served as inspiration for later artists.
