Long dress in jersey and strass by Uli Richter - Berlin Circa 1970

About the Item

Circa 1970 Germany Berlin Elegant flowing long dress in fir green stretch polyamide jersey by Berlin designer Uli Richter from the 1970s. The dress has long sleeves with slightly puffed cuffs and an elastic waistband. Crew neckline with split front and rhinestone cabochons at the cuffs. Integrated belt with rhinestone buckle in Art Deco style. A few threads pulled at one wrist, otherwise no stains or holes. Very good condition of colour and conservation. Dimensions: Equivalent size France 36-38. Shoulders 39 cm, sleeves 63 cm, chest 86-90 cm, waist 67-70 cm, hips 88-95 cm, height 150 cm. Uli Richter (1926 2021) was a Berlin designer who became famous in 1949 with a dark blue wool georgette summer dress with a quilted pleated skirt called Marcelle. He made an international breakthrough as a fashion designer in 1957 when he won first prize at the Venice International Cotton Festival for a beaded evening dress with a velvet coat. In 1959, he founded his house with a ready-to-wear collection - uli richter special - characterised by clear cuts, harmonious colour combinations and unusual material combinations. Richter was one of the new designers who shaped "Berlin chic". Richter's clientele included a number of public figures. In 1965, he designed the wedding outfit for Marie Cécile de Prusse (born 1942), daughter of Ludwig Ferdinand of Prussia. From 1970 to 1974, Rut Brandt wore Richter's designs on state visits. Other well-known clients included Gracia Patricia von Monaco , Hildegard Knef , Lilli Palmer and Aenne Burda . He was also able to establish himself on the American market. The company closed in 1982. His creative work was celebrated by the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin in 2007 and 2016.
