Christian Lacroix Pink Print Silk Ruffle Dress S/S 1992

About the Item

Known for his opulent and theatrical designs, French designer Christian Lacroix launched his first Haute Couture collection in 1987. Drawing inspiration from history and folklore, his debut collection continues to resonate with contemporary artists. Named the “king of color” by Vogue in 1990, he often created striking color palettes that made his designs even more remarkable. Lacroix served as creative director for Pucci from 2002-2005, designed costumes for the Paris Opera Ballet, and partnered with Dries Van Noten in 2019 to critical acclaim. His Spring 1992 collection featured an array of off-the-shoulder dresses with voluminous sleeves, bows, and ruffles, a perfect ode to the designer’s perspective on fashion: “I don’t believe in minimalism– you can find that everywhere.” From that collection, this beautiful dress is a fine example of Lacroix’s exquisite craftsmanship and love of color. Done in a bright magenta silk featuring a floral print in shades of orange, white, yellow, black, and pale green, this dress is an exuberant and feminine embodiment of spring. Size estimate: Small Bust: 32 inches Waist: Length: 37 inches The bodice begins with an off-the-shoulder neckline that is framed by large ruffles that wrap around the back of the dress to create a regal collar. The voluminous, sheer sleeves extend past the wrists, giving this dress a dainty feeling. The skirt falls from an empire waistline– defined by two bows beneath the bust– to a mini length several inches above the knees, creating an airy silhouette. The subtle high-low hem adds yet another layer of drama and emphasizes the cape-like design at the back of the dress, which falls in soft pleats from the ruching at the shoulders. A phenomenal addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this incredible Lacroix confection is the perfect choice for a summer wedding, evening soiree, or special occasion, and can easily be styled with statement heels and accessories. This 1992 Christian Lacroix dress is partially lined at the bodice with a short magenta silk corset. In excellent condition, it has a concealed back zip closure. This dress has been cleansed with obsidian and sage to ensure that you are welcoming a bright new energy into your home, and has also been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. - Follow us on Instagram @BASHAGOLD

Travilla for Saks Fifth Ave Beverly Hills Beaded Lace and Silk Gown Size 16 NWOT
By Travilla, William Travilla
Located in Palm Springs, CA
A one of a kind evening gown, perfect for a summer wedding, and special enough to even be worn by the mother of the groom or bride. Custom design by TRAVILLA the famous Hollywood costume designer, who also did clothes for Saks Fifth Avenue for celebrities and the rich and famous in Hollywood. This was ordered at the Beverly Hills store and never worn by our Palm Springs California client. The most beautiful color of a light taupe crepe silk and nude color lace that is completely beat it by hand.. Rare to find a evening dress of this quality in size 16. The dress has enough hem to make the deess longer by at least 3”. It is not even pressed with any crease. to show if it is lengthened. A stand out dress that looks as expensive as it was (over $2500). William TRAVILLA Bio: The man who draped a fringed Idaho potato sack on Marilyn Monroe for a famous snapshot - proving that she looked good in anything - was born on Catalina Island off the California coast on March 22 1920. He studied at the Chouinard School of Art in L.A., showing a precocious talent for drawing fashion design from an early age. By the time he was sixteen, he made money by selling sketches of costume designs for showgirls he had studied at burlesque houses. Found unfit for wartime duties due to flat feet, William Travilla made his way to Hollywood and signed his first contract as costume designer at Columbia in 1941. However, during his two-year tenure he received rather few assignments and left disillusioned. Little work came his way during the next few years, until, in 1946, he was spotted in a nightclub (selling travel sketches of the South Pacific) by the actress Ann Sheridan, who became an instant admirer of his work. Sheridan persuaded Travilla to become her personal costume designer at Warner Brothers. This didn't quite come to pass, though he did design her gowns for Nora Prentiss (1947). More importantly, he notched up his first major success by winning the Academy Award for the lavish and colourful costumes of Adventures of Don Juan (1948) in conjunction with Leah Rhodes and Marjorie Best. After his three year contract was up, Travilla went on to 20th Century Fox, for what would become the most productive period of his career in the film business. At the same time, he set up his own high end fashion salon, Travilla Inc., in Los Angeles, creating several collections of elegant, award-winning designs. Travilla dressed many established stars, from Marlene Dietrich and Joan Crawford, to Loretta Young. However, he is chiefly remembered for the iconic gowns...
