The House of Dior is known for its immaculately tailored ensembles and strikingly lavish couture gowns. Yet from time to time, Dior takes an unexpected turn. The 1978 collection created under the direction of Marc Bohan, took a colorful and adventurous angle through a combination of rich colors, and loose, folksy silhouettes. This dress is done in a vivid red georgette with a square burnout motif throughout. The dress begins with two satin ribbons that act as adjustable straps. An overlay drapes from the squared neckline adding an extra feminine dimension to the bodice. From a high empire waistline, the relatively straight skirt extends to an ankle length hem. The combination of the repeating square motif and the substantial skirt creates a flattering illusion of height.
