Pierre Cardin
Best known for creating groundbreaking fashion designs from the 1950s onward, Pierre Cardin enjoyed great success in other design fields, most notably furniture. Cardin’s chairs, cabinets, tables and other pieces share many of the keynotes of his clothing designs. They are simple, geometric, elegant and cool.
Cardin was born in a village near Venice, Italy, and raised in central France. Always interested in fashion, he left home at age 17 to train with a Vichy tailor. After the end of World War II, Cardin moved to Paris and worked for a succession of couture houses, before taking a job with Christian Dior in 1946. Cardin went solo in 1950, and quickly won attention for his novel style. Unlike Dior’s famous New Look, Cardin’s clothes de-emphasized a woman’s curves; his breakthrough pieces like the Bubble dress had, instead, a sculptural quality. In the following decade, Cardin introduced bright tunic dresses and shifts, marketed as the Space Age look and accessorized with vinyl hats and visors.
In the 1970s Cardin expanded his design work into furniture, jewelry and automobiles. (Later, licensing agreements would put Cardin’s name on goods ranging from perfume to sunglasses.) Cardin’s furniture pieces — inspired, perhaps, by the rediscovery of Art Deco design in that decade — feature simple, symmetrical forms, lacquer and figured veneer finishes, and accents in metals such as aluminum and brass.
Whether you are looking for a vintage cocktail dress or a chest of drawers to keep it in, as you will see on 1stDibs, Pierre Cardin offers an option in either that is timelessly chic.

- Vintage 1978 Lanvin Couture Black Sheer Silk & Stripe Velvet Billow-Sleeve GownBy Lanvin ParisLocated in Beverly Hills, CAThis extremely gorgeous Lanvin Couture sheer silk chiffon dress from their 1978 fall-winter collection is a statement piece. I love the beautiful bohemian chic vibe mixed with an elegant refinement. The striped velvet trim adds the perfect amount of color to the garment. The bodice has a stunning ruffle collar with dramatic billow-sleeves. Shaped with an elastic band, the figure flattering cut adds a sophisticated blousy nature while still showcasing your waistline. Under the direction of Jules Francois-Crahay, Lanvin was a playground for imagination. This vibrant primary hues is the perfect example of this. Lanvin may be the oldest fashion house in Paris, but it has also managed to remain one of the most relevant. Through many years and many designers, it has stayed true to the vision of its founder, Madame Jeanne...Category

- Vintage 1960's Gene Shelly Chartreuse Yellow Sequin Beaded Knit Cocktail DressBy Gene Shelley International Boutique, Gene ShelleyLocated in Beverly Hills, CAMid-century Gene Shelly designer garments are in a class of their own. They are always fully-sequined by hand and fit to flatter the figure. This early 1960's treasure has a fantastic abstract-deco design worked in, featuring iridescent-beadwork. The base is an ultra-soft chartreuse yellow wool-knit and the sequin work is done in the same hue. Just look at the detail pictures! Though the hourglass fit is rather seductive, the 3/4-length sleeves give it a balanced elegance that Gene Shelly is known for. I love the nipped-waist belted hourglass wiggle skirt! This is the type of garment celebrity vixens, like Marilyn Monroe, made infamous. Extraordinary and a rare find to be in such pristine condition. Measurements (The knit will allow stretch so you can safely add two inches to the below measurements) Bust: 34 inches Waist: 28 inches Hips: 36 inches Sleeve Length: 19 inches Total Length: 42 inches This vintage Gene...Category
