Alexander McQueen red jacket, Highland Rape Collection, Autumn/Winter 1995

About

An important example of Alexander McQueen, this jacket from the 'Highland Rape' collection was made for the runway show and can be seen clearly in show footage. The show garnered enormous press coverage and set McQueen on the road to stardom, however the collection name was misunderstood by many; McQueen's collection was inspired by the ravaging and pillaging of Scotland by the English. Most pieces within the show, like this jacket, were deliberately distressed to convey that feeling. Constructed in red and ivory herringbone wool, the jacket has a pronounced collar in pale green silk damask, while the split sleeves are padded in the shoulder.
