About the Item

A beauty to behold, this original 1920's kimono, rendered in an ombré palette of pale peach to vibrant orange in the softest of tissue silks and embroidered with a pattern of flying cranes in silk threads, is a rare piece to behold. The classic kimono cut is framed by a border panel neckline, which crosses over along the front of the bodice. The simple shoulder line is framed by rectangle kimono sleeves with arm openings along the top, which are decorated with silk fringed tassels along each extremity. The kimono draws in along the waistline with a matching silk belt, in a ombré pattern, edged with silk fringing and tassels to each side. The back of the robe features intricate trailing crane embroidery, which matches those along the front of the kimono. The hemline and cuffs of the piece are lined with a soft rolled cotton to add weight to the drape of the kimono. The kimono is lined in peach tissue silk. Label: None Measurements of the Kimono Kimono Sleeve Width: 15 inches Kimono Sleeve Length: 23 inches Armpit to Armpit: up to 44 inches Shoulder to Hem: 59 inches Neckline to End of Sleeve: 29 inches Hips: up to 50 Inches Size: UK 10-16 US 6-12 Closures: a matching waist belt Condition: This vintage kimono is in. near perfection vintage condition. A few vert light impression marks along the lighter parts of the kimono wear the dye appears slightly more vibrant in patches. A few very light and small age marks along the front right hand side of the kimono. A small black ink dot along the front left hand side of the kimono near the side seam at hip height. Three very small holes along the back right hand side of the kimono. A small age mark along the front left hand side of the kimono. Light and natural wear marks along the rolled hemline of the kimono. Small area of light colour bleed beneath the first embroidered kimono along the back right hand side shoulder blade. A small internal hole to the silk lining along the internal right hand side. These minor details are in no way apparent when the kimono is being worn and only visible upon very close inspection. Please refer to the photographs, as they form part of the condition report. Fabric: Silk, Silk Embroidery, cotton rolled hemline and cuffs.
